TomHerrick
I have the trial versions for both Home Designer Pro (HDP) and Chief Architect Premium (CAP) and have started to familiarize myself with each. I did notice that HDP doesn't have discrete layers for each item that would allow me to toggle between an existing wall that will be demolished and rebuilt in the same location. Talking to sales last Wednesday they agreed that CAP would be a better choice. But, it dawned on me that using HDP I could simply draw up the existing structure showing the proposed demolition and save it twice - once as the demolition plan and another as the final plan and simply modify the new file. I do this kind of thing regularly in Adobe Illustrator but since I can't save a file in the HDP trial version I can't prove it to myself before I make a purchase. I can't imagine that HDP would only address a single project file, but I want to make absolutely certain. I'm a retired restoration contractor and this will be for a project on my property, not for continued business purposes. Their sale ends Monday and I'd like to figure this out before then. You may save to a new file as many times as you wish within the program. You can also copy a plan and/or layout using the operating system file commands. TomHerrick
Thanks, Eric. I expected so since most drafting software works that way, but didn't want to make an expensive goof. All the best, Tom
