Rafters are visible in plan and 3d views but can't select to modify even though layer is unlocked. Trying to extend rafters over new room and porch. What am I missing?

Using HDPro 24. Thanks.

I did have somebody work on it but he responded to a request for home designer work, I had no idea that he was using chief architect. In any case I've since been cleaning up their mess and don't want him screwing it up more. Should I delete all rafters and regenerate framing? It was a challenge getting the clerestory to work so would rather not delete roof planes. Thanks.

How do I now expose the rafters in defaults as they were before? idea is to have exposed rafters with pine decking on top. I had trouble with this previously, seems like it should be more straightforward than it is...

Then start your own software company from scratch... It does what it is programmed to do and NOTHING else. So one has to get done what needs doing with the tools at hand.

I assume you want to have exposed rafters; that can be done as you have seen. I looked at the model that Eric uploaded and noticed that the fascia has been removed, leaving an large air gap between the rafters and the roof decking. Were I to try to do this I would reset the settings in the effected roof planes. Out-of-the-box the rafters are interiorized and are behind the fascia. The fascia is still there between the perpendicular rafters but the fascia is against the house.

I would also set Default Settings - Framing - Roof  match what I am doing with the roof framing in terms of rafter sizing. Make these same changes in the Build Roof Dialog - Structure to make sure those new settings were applied.

It would be great if the software was smart or AI er something but it IS not...YOU have to be smart to fill in via study-practice and only you makes anything good appear.

Everything very helpful but still no luck on revealing rafters on interior, although framing view and camera view of exterior rafter tails look fine now, right where they should be after adjusting defaults and rebuilding, but not visible in interior camera view. Also, it appears that my program, HD Pro 24, doesn't have a "roof layers" section under the structure tab of the roof plane specifications dialogue. Don't see a workaround in any other materials tab or dialogue and nothing on roof layers in manual. Interestingly, I tried adjusting an individual rafter height by subtracting the depth of the rafter from the floor to ceiling height to lower it, and it did become visible on the interior looking like where I want it, but on the exterior it now shows as dropping well below the roof and into wall. Any ideas?

Thanks Eric, I've been exploring the same and it's slowly coming together. I think the key to my existing solution, not wanting to start from scratch, is to edit the materials section of the roof plane by selecting the bottom, decking, layer and "changing" the material by selecting in the misc. tab "no material", which effectively deletes that layer, which then reveals the osb layer above the rafters, and then changing that layer to "plank decking". Kind of round about, but seems to get the job done. I was alerted to the possibility by a video on HD site on how to expose rafter tails under soffit...same principal it seems.
Now I have to figure out how to change the direction of the planking which is running by default parallel to the rafters rather than perpendicular, so that they are supported by the rafters.

Thanks again.
