I want to put a roof over the door so that it creates a small dry area in front of the door where people will enter. I get how roof lines work in relation to roofs attached to a wall at the top plate. However, this roof that I want to create is attached to the wall of the building well below the level of the top plate. The other end of the roof will be supported by two 6 x 6 posts.
