Remove part of base molding

I guess I am not understanding the problem?
There is base molding in the room;
There is crown molding in the room;
The firebox (with feet) is raised off the floor;
There is no base molding below the firebox.

Joann, I need the whole wall to be free of base molding. Your drawing has base molding on either side of the firebox. My fireplace surround goes corner to corner and the base molding was going in front of my surround.

 

I'm going to try to do my surround the way Keith is telling me to do it. I think that might solve my problem.

yes! Did you use a shape?

The double-sided firebox is a fireplace screen, with it's depth altered.

 

Everything else is done with closed box shapes.
