apex944
I followed the CA info on how to add a Portico found here: http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00168/ However the Portico I want to design does not use a gabled roof. Attached is a photo of what I'm trying to do. Flat "roof" with a balcony on it. If I can get the roof created the balcony I can create. The porch slab, columns all were created. It's the flat roof I'm having trouble with. Pointers?
Jo_Ann
Just draw your railing on the 2nd floor of that room, and that will eliminate the roof. Remember to designate the 2nd floor room as 'no roof over this room'.
apex944
I tried that and here is what I got
Jo_Ann
I have no idea what you did wrong, because I don't get that result. Is your 2nd floor railing 'room' smaller than the 1st floor room?
Jo_Ann
It IS smaller, isn't it? You didn't specify that. Go back to floor 1, open each of the 3 walls, and under the 'roof' tab, set the pitch to 0. That should fix it.
Kbird1
yes I'd try putting the railing walls right over the Porch walls and make sure you assign Balcony to the second floor Room you could also turn off the roof in the Porch below If you attach the plan Jo or I or someone can have a look for you. Jo_Ann
THEN......I would designate that room as a 'slab' if you want the floor surface to be lower than the roof surface.. If you want the floor surface to be flush with the roof surface, I would make the floor finish (k) to be 6". On the 1st floor room, check 'ceiling over this room' and 'use soffit surface for ceiling'. I would then increase the ceiling finish (j) to 6". How does it look? apex944
It open each of the 3 walls, and under the 'roof' tab, set the pitch to 0. That should fix it. That was it. The Portico instructions I found specified a gabled roof. Removed that and the pitch setting was then available for editing. Thank you. Any insight into my dimension constraint question a few posts down?
