CRSmith05
I just purchased Home Designer 2016 Suite, are .plan files exported from Chief Architect X6 compatible with my version of the software?
Kbird1
the x6 User would need to set the plan to be edited in Home Designer Products ,but your editing will be limited to Suite's capabilities AFAIK.
CRSmith05
Thanks! That was my understanding, I was just concerned about general file compatibility across the different versions. I used the following KB for reference: http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00516/ My confusion stems from this statement inside the knowledge base article: If you are uncertain as to whether or not your version of Chief Architect is the same version as the individual using the Home Designer program, you can use the information below as a guide. Chief Architect X6 <=> Home Designer 2015 Chief Architect X5 <=> Home Designer 2014 Chief Architect X4 <=> Home Designer 2012 Chief Architect X3 <=> Home Designer 10 Chief Architect X2 <=> Home Designer
Solution Kbird1 Posted June 11, 2015 Solution Share Posted June 11, 2015 A newer version (2016) can always open older versions but not the other way around , you would also be able to open X7 files as X7 = 2016.

DavidJPotter
Chief Premier users can open a Home Designer file and then in "Plan Defaults" there is a check box that says "Allow this file to be edited in selected Home Designer Products". once checked that file can be shared with Home Designer software, if that check box is not checked in Chief Architect Premier then the file can only thereafter be viewed but not edited in Home Designer titles. The versions of Chief Premier and Home Designer MUST also match for this to work properly. DJP
