  1. Solver asked if you were asking in general, or specific to the software, and you said you were asking about general home construction.

If you actually do want a sequence of steps for creating working drawings in Home Designer Pro, start to finish, go through the User's Guide.  It walks you through the whole things step by step from drawing a first wall to creating a layout page.

  2. How are you rotating the plan?  Using Rotate Plan View Tool? Marquee Select or Edit Area and rotate edit handle?  Transform/Replicate?

If one method doesn't work, try a different one.  Edit Area is what I generally use and I've never run into an issue like what you've described.

  3. Difficult to guess what is wrong without seeing your plan and an image of the one you are trying to redraw.  Best guess is a difference in between the wall thicknesses in the original plan as opposed to the Home Designer walls, or possibly with where the dimensions are locating the walls.

  4. Download the Core Catalogs, they include a number of plants as well as many other items.

    KB-00048: Downloading Library Catalogs

Once they are downloaded, you can either browse the folders in the Library Browser, or use the Plant Chooser to search by common names.

Then if there is are regional plants that you can't find, then see if you can find images or 3D symbols from other places.

  5. You can Google information on building a home, but since some requirements vary so much based on location of the property, region and even country, you're probably better off chatting with a local Builder.

  6. She should upgrade.

(You can export a DXF that her version can import, but that's going to lose all of the 3D info so she'll basically have to trace all of the lines to actually create walls, place cabinets, windows, doors and configure them . . . essentially do all the work over again.)

  7. If you never want them for Technical Illustration overviews uncheck "Show Shadows" in the General Camera Defaults for the plan.

If you only want to turn them off in a particular view, then with it active select 3D> Edit Active Camera and uncheck "Show Shadows."

  8. There's a bunch of training resources that the software company provides directly that can help with getting you started with learning the program.  See this article to learn more . . .  KB-00337: Resources for Learning Home Designer

Start with the User's Guide first, then launch into your own project.  If you run into any snags and can't find an answer by searching the Help, website and videos, post a new thread here in the Q&A with a copy of your plan and a photograph of something like what you're trying to do and we can probably get you pointed in the right direction.
