  1. We've been seeing an increase in the number of "how do I create this roof" type posts, so I wanted to create a Tip thread for quick reference.

    • Go through the Roof Tutorial in the User's Guide so that you understand the basics before trying to get your specific roof and know how changing things in the individual walls, as well as room Ceiling Height, is going to affect the way it builds.

    • If you know the specific name of the type of roof you want, try searching the website and forum for that first.  Things like catslide, butterfly, mansard, gambrel, gull wing, barn, loft, porch, dormer, A frame, dutch hip / gable, saltbox, prow, portico, curved, round, bow, etc in combination with the word roof and odds are pretty high that your question has already been answered several times over.

    • Watch the Roof Design webinars.

    • Watch the videos (that apply to your version).

    • Go through the Roof articles.

    • Especially with anything other than Pro, you might have to tweak the design to get the roof to build how you want, then turn off Auto Rebuild Roofs.  This could mean separating out different parts of your building so they aren't connected, raising/lowering ceiling heights until you get close enough.

    • Failing everything else, start a New Thread in the Q&A section and attach a copy of your plan along with a photograph (or several) that shows the type roof you want and an explanation of what you aren't sure how to do.

It doesn't even have to be your exact roof, just something close.

(Sometimes the answer might be that you'll need to upgrade to Pro or Premier, but at least you can hopefully avoid some frustration.)

  2. Tools> Rotate Plan View.  Change from 90 back to 0.  Does that make a difference?  (I'm not having a problem in Pro 2017 with Print Preview but I thought I recalled this being expected in the older versions.)

  3. If the option isn't there in Build Foundation, and you aren't finding anything in the Help, unfortunately, it probably means it's a more advanced feature that you'll have to upgrade for.  Maybe check out the trial version of Pro first to see if it will do what you want.

    KNX

The website you linked to just looks like an association with a bunch of different manufacturers that are part of it.  It doesn't look like they actually make anything themselves?

Try searching the 3D Warehouse for the specific type of symbol, or go directly to a manufacturer that you know makes them and see if they provide 3D symbol objects of their products in a file format compatible with Home Designer.

You could probably also import an image and make it a Stretch to Fit material of an image if you find something close for the sensors and just apply it to a closed box Shape from the Library Browser.

  4. Look at the Build Foundation image in the article.  It has a radio button where you can select "Monolithic Slab." (I don't know whether or not Suite has this capability, but the article does say it applies, so this is the most likely place that you'll find it).  Also try searching the software's Help for "Slab."

  5. Deck Framing/Planking won't get generated unless the room is enclosed.  Double check all your wall/railing connections and also make sure that none of them as set to "No Room Definition" in their Specification dialogs.
