Thanks I found that option. Alan

Eric If that is a single story building then yes that is what I need. Alan

Eric That dormer is on the second floor. I just want to replace the hip roof shown in my post with a simple dormer or gable roof if you like over the bump out -- not extending it up another storey. I really can't make it any clearer than that. Alan

If you look at the attached the program has created a roof over the bump out. I want make that a dormer. Thanks Alan

When I use auto exterior dimensions it places dimensions for interior walls that abut exterior walls. I know I can delete dimensions but the interior wall dimensions are part of a chain and it deletes the exterior wall dimensions as well. Is this a bug in the program or some sort of option I can deselect? Thanks Alan

Eric Okay will do -- I always forget the search option. My bad Alan

David I just read through Building a Gable Dormer in HD Pro as I though it was more suitable for my purpose as i wanted the gable dormer to be on an exterior wall as opposed to just in the roof plane. However this creates a full height gable dormer on the second floor wall. What I need is to create a gable dormer over the first floor wall. Can I use the same procedure or is there a different way? Thanks Alan

Thanks David. Yes I was trying to use the default tools. I guess I need to start looking at these articles. Alan

On a similar note, is there any way to add a second sink to make a double vanity. I tried to add a second one but it asked me if I wanted to replace the one that was already there. Alan

I have a small (7' long x 1'-2" deep) bump out from the front wall of my single story house. The roof plane ends at the eaves of the front wall and I want to make a dormer over that bump out but am not sure how to do it. I tried to use the create dormer from walls (not the floating dormer). As the roof plane does not extend over the bump out I get an error message that says that it needs a roof plane to create it. I can't extend the roof plane over the bump out as it would not be correct for the front wall of the house. What I need to do is somehow extend just that portion of the roof plane where the bump out is located but I don't see how to do that. Alan

Actually once I had the penetration through to the second floor that it created, I just pulled back on the stairs as needed. Alan

I did uncheck the display column check mark. Alan

I have two dormers that I created with using the Auto Floating Dormer Tool. I did not want this to appear for plotting so I unchecked the Auto Dormer Layer in Display Properties (a red x says that there were objects on that layer) but they still show up in plan view. Any idea why? Thanks Alan

There is no room above so I just create walls to make the floor and then make them invisible? Thanks Alan

I am not using Chief -- Home Designer Pro. If need to create a room dividing wall that is say 48" high then I cannot use the room ceiling height dialog box. Alan

How can I draw a wall with a certain height? I need to add a knee wall on the second floor to support the roof rafters but when drawing a wall there is no option to set its height. Thanks Alan

I think what I need to do is to shorten the stairs before sending to the plot screen. If I do that then it doesn't show on the second floor. Maybe there is a way to turn that layer off and add a shortened stair to a different layer for plotting?? Alan

I have added a porch at the front of the house. How can I extend the second floor to cover this? The floor doesn't seem to exist in a form that can be manipulated. Do I use a slab instead -- not sure if that is suitable as there would not be any framing for it.? Thanks Alan

I don't yet have a ceiling over the first floor rooms -- do you think that may be the issue? Alan
