  1. I would agree and yet I see so many new homes that have siding about 6" above grade. Here in the Pittsburgh region we often get snow that makes it up to 12" and then there is drifting. I haven't found any codes that restrict placement above grade.
  2. This is a general design question for any & all designers who deal with weather. What is the general consensus about putting metal siding down to grade where it would likely come into contact with snow?
  3. How do I import an object from Sketch-Up?
  4. Ok what's going on. Why won't doors get dimensioned to centers like windows? Auto-Exterior settings are set to have openings dimensioned to center. Windows are picked up but doors aren't. WTH?FARNER - PROPOSAL 20170818.planFARNER - PROPOSAL 20170818.plan FARNER - PROPOSAL 20170818.plan
  5. I tried to replicate your room and got 3"x3" yikes!
  6. You might consider using Sketch-Up to create the exact "THING" then import that into your model. Go to Youtube or Home Designer video's to learn how to import. You might try going to the Home Designer 3D Library, down load some "Things" then do your own.
  7. You might consider taking your plans to Home Depot in your area. They will do a materials Take-Off and provide an estimate of all materials. You might be able to take this to any construction materials supplier who will then do a Take-off. You could/should go to your regional Home Builders Association or to your local Chamber of Commerce to get some builders who you can talk to and get some references and then have them provide you with construction estimates. I'm a designer here in the SW region of PA. I use Home Depot, 84 Lumber ( go to their website and put in your zipcode ), and Brookside Lumber. You could probably find an actual lumber supply to do the same thing.

    "THINGS"

THANK You! THIS is an answer I and possibly others can use. So when people are making these "Things" for use in Home Designer, they are using Sketch Up to create the "things" then we are able to import the "things" into Home Designer. So, It's possible for me to create the Scissors Truss I was looking for into my project" Is it also possible for me to create the Bathroom fixtures I need for the other project I'm doing? So, I can't "FILL" the tub or the toilet in Home Designer, BUT I could create these "Things" in Sketch-Up then Import them into Home Designer?

    Fixture Fill

David, You can't imagine how much I appreciate the time someone takes to answer questions. What I don't appreciate is what "Solver" wrote in 2 of the 3 previous responses. His last response was spot on. I don't mind the brief, one word answers. As long as the answer is more than "Look in Help", I appreciate the effort. Your comment was, "snarky". Unappreciated and unwarranted. I don't need your comment, it does nothing for me or anyone. Stay on point next time. wdm

    Fixture Fill

Not to be "snarky", but when I post a question it's because I have searched the HELP, I gone to You Tube, I've tried various tricks to no solution that I can use. I'm looking for specific answers - I DID open Help and I DID a search for Fill Style - thru the entire Home Designer Pro Help, Before coming to the forum. As a former user of Chief Architect I had version 9.5 on my last computer. I didn't upgrade because I was quite happy with that version. I knew it inside and out. When my previous computer suffered a system failure during a storm I lost that software. I still have my disks and my dongle but the new computer won't acknowledge the hardware dongle lock. The Home Designer Pro is a good substitute for the Chief Architect. It does most of what I want. Some small things are troublesome but that's ok. Spending $49 a month compared to $199 a month isn't going to happen. The only reason I'm using the software is to give clients a nice 3D rendering for their project. The alternative is to use Sketch-Up that costs $695 for the Pro version and Free for the generic version. It's easy to use, very low learning curve, very powerful presentation renderings and can do full CD's. The reason I come to the Forum is to find out what other users do before I waste hours looking for a solution that doesn't exist. I don't need "Snarky", I need help. "Snarky" members can take their attitudes elsewhere. Thanks Frances, I appreciate the comment. My response was not meant to be leveled at you but the "snarky" members who might read this. For those who might reply Don't reply with some "snarky" thought, I don't need it. I need help, not "snarky".

    "THINGS"

I see "THINGS" that are in the 3D Library that I'd love to make for myself and others to use. How do you make "THINGS" like Kitchen appliances or Garage tools, ie table saw, log splitter, car hoist for Home Designer Pro v2018?

    Fixture Fill

Believe it or not, since I'm not a total git, can you please be a little more descriptive. Just telling me "Fill Style" isn't much help. thanks

    Fixture Fill

Is there a way to turn off the "Fill" on an appliance or fixture like a tub or sink or cabinet?
  15. I'm trying to create a solid shape that will be a Scissors Truss which will be covered with plywood. the generic shapes don't provide the option and I'm not seeing where there might be a generic shape I can modify. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. As a professional designer keep in mind that what is important is that YOU don't need to worry about what the truss will look like, that is the architect or designer's job. The Truss supplier is going to take your plans and elevations, send them to the manufacturer who will actually design the roof trusses for the project. The building section that is being generated by the designer comes partly from the roof manufacturer, we simply plug in the information as a "visual" indicator for the builder.
