This will be the first in a mini-barrage of questions... just bought HDP 2019 and am diving in, and can't figure a few things out here... So, my apologies in advance for this miniseries. I'm trying to figure out if I'm able to put recessed lighting into the ceiling of deep niches - for example, in a 1' deep niche, I'd like a 4" recessed can light. When I try to do this, the light seems to disappear, and I'm not sure how to check in elevation view where it might be vertically. Any help appreciated! Thanks, Andrew

That did it! Thanks. What is that function called?

Hi all, Finally purchased Home Designer Pro! So... first thing I did is dowload the Kohler library and put a freestanding tub down, and added a freestanding faucet. However, I can't get the faucet close enough to the tub to overhang the faucet - in other words, if you turn the water on, it wouldn't actually go in the tub... How can I fix this? Thanks Andrew

Hi Jo_Ann, I'm just trying to figure out how to get the roofs to work, or find someone who can tell me what I'm doing wrong. I understand it may be a complicated design. Dimensions are not important...
-
Thanks Jo_Ann. Thanks! Wow - I see you were able to model this pretty successfully - I'm not asking, however, how to model it to precise dimensions - I'm asking how to do what you're showing here. That said, I'm expecting to get my laser measuring tape today at which point I'll be able to be a lot more specific. (The inside has some unusual stuff going on, too) Are you able to share the model so I can look at the construction? Also - not sure why it would go in Q&A vs. Tips & Tricks, but I'd certainly move it if appropriate, though I don't seem to have that choice. thanks again, Andrew

This seems to be the closest I can get before this error pops up (you can see that the knee wall on the closer part of the home worked ok).

Hi, Following along one of the roof tutorials, I'm following instructions here: But after unchecking auto-rebuild, and changing rough ceiling back to 109, I'm getting "new walls" outside the roof: Any thoughts? thanks Andrew

Thanks guys, just getting back to this now. LawB10, the pitch on my home is the same on both sides of the ridge(s), so changing 1 pitch won't be accurate. Eric - I appreciate the thought of buying, but I don't see how the purchase itself would help me figure this out. I see there are several videos, so I'll probably go through them to see if I can find the answer. cheers Andrew

Thanks Eric- Done. Here's what happens when I adjust the ceiling height to 170" :

The sketch was just that... neither is exactly the right proportions, but I'm trying first to figure out how to actually do this. Both parts of the actual structure feature saltbox design. In reality, the two roofs are slightly different heights at the ridge. Here's what happens when I try to create kneewalls under each section:

Hi Eric, Here's a pic... geometry looks good until a knee wall is introduced, then the geometry goes a bit haywire... thanks, Andrew

Not having any luck creating this roof structure without pieces ending up missing, or clad strangely (missing part of siding), etc. This is a single home. Don't know the program well enough, but assuming I may have to try to do it manually? Can it be done?
-
Works great! Now, to figure out the joins and porch roofs... thanks again Andrew
-
Thanks Eric - I didn't know that's what it was called. I'll take a look around.
-
Thanks - but I'm not sure how to make the roof sides different lengths. (See attached) (edit) Or, to look at it another way, how to make the walls different heights

Hi all, I'm running the 2018 Pro demo. That's why my sig was empty - just updated. thanks, Andrew

Hi everyone, Back to experimenting with HD for some home projects... I am planning on doing some interior work as well as landscaping / hardscaping design and think this package might work. I'm jumping around a bit, but trying to figure out how to model this roof, specifically, how to make part of the house where the roof is longer (sloping surface is closer to ground on one side of the roof than the other) - also how to create the join above the front door where it interesects two other roofs if possible. I'm not changing anything with the roof, but would really like to learn how to model this... I've attached a few Google Earth snaps of the house and also a Street view of the front. Any help really appreciated! thanks Andrew

Actually, I redrew the steps and it worked fine... only issue would be the wood join along the 45 where the steps meet.
-
Hi Eric- I actually tried that... how do I shape it like an L? Also, it kept creating balusters/railings... thx Andrew
-
I have a sunken living room that has a stair that is L-Shaped in one corner. When I try to create a stair on each wall and have them meet, the longer one (longer to meet the wall) creates odd triangle-shaped geometry on the wall it meets... How can I do this?

Thanks all - David, looks very helpful. I'll have to do this at home with the software open to follow along. Max, what do you mean by "By the time you edit the frames and doors the components could have already been created." ? I assume you mean simply a pre-built library item, but I'm not sure. FWIW the shower I'm trying to do is 4' x 3', and the only glass is the door and the sidelight on one of the 4' sides. I'm trying to figure out how to attach a sketch or add one to my media... Mick, thanks for the note too, I'll experiment a bit with that. cheers, Andrew --- Using Home Designer Pro demo

Hi Max, Using the Pro trial. Was hoping for an "actual" door symbol of some sort; I'm going to experiment a bit more. thanks, Andrew
-
Hi Everyone, I'm creating a small custom shower enclosure (3' x 4') and want to add a shower door with a sidelight. What's the best method of doing this? thanks, Andrew
-
Excellent - THANK YOU. I think it goes without saying that I likely would not have found this in the user manual presented in such a straightforward way.
