  1. This is what I'm saying - yes, I can adjust that, but the ceiling stays where it is. I suppose there's no way to lock everything so that I can adjust a single height somewhere & have everything else follow along? Not sure what's going on in your pic, but when I lower the floor of the building on the right, here's what I get. I want the -entire- structure to drop by 100".
  2. Morning Eric - I didn't find any single "height adjustment" that allows me to make a change & updates all related numbers automatically. For example, I can drop the foundation, but the ceiling stays in the same place. In other words, if I know the 2nd structure I'm drawing has a foundation bottom 36" lower than that of the first, can I somehow get HDP to recognize that, and base the structure I'm working on on that new 36" lower height? (red line is the elevation for which I'd like to drop the base 36".) \ I thought I might be able to figure something out using different floors, but with my limited knowledge, that was a bigger mess.
  3. Hi all, There are a few foundation height questions about varying them, but I didn't find any that seem to address what I'm looking for. Basically, I'm trying to figure out if/how we can have foundations at different heights for non-connected structures, then connect them with stairs/ramps later. This would come in handy on a sloped lot, for example. Ideally, I'd like to change nothing in the structure except the bottom-most elevation (height) of the foundation. For example, I draw a structure. Then, I want to draw another, not connected to the first, 3 feet lower. And, in addition, change the vertical location of an entire structure. So far, I haven't discovered a way to do this. Might be simple but as with some other things I don't know what command/menu item to look for.
  4. Yes - that's what I mentioned in the step above. However, I'll try the Paste/Hold Position. Would be nice if it were a continuous multi-floor wall, but hey... Is there a way to remove the molding from that wall? I don't see it as a wall-specific choice. (I just rebuilt it using a stairwell.)
  5. Whoops! When I try to drag the edge of the opening over to where the stairs would meet the 2nd floor, it jumps up again...
  6. Got a bit closer. Had to build the 1st floor wall first, set to Hang Platform Above on Wall, then build the 2nd floor wall at the edge of the opening. I then aligned the 2nd floor wall to the edge of the steps (bringing the edge of the opening with it.) I then dragged the wall on the 1st floor under the wall on the 2nd floor and aligned it to the 2nd floor wall.
  7. Lol.. yeah, had to show a working example somehow... Two things I'm trying to figure out: 1) That brick wall - can I actually make it two floors high without structural members from the 2nd floor poking through? It seems to be sticking out about 1" where the floor members would intersect it. I want to simulate the wall being, essentially, a two-story wall. 2) When I drag the same edge against the stairs, or move a wall against an edge of the stairs, it "jumps" up to the next floor and the opening disappears. The attached image had the opening on the 2nd floor and the stairs on the 1st before the wall or edge is abutted to the stairs... the wall is on a different edge of the stairs in the image, but it happens regardless. The other image shows the room on the 2nd floor, Open To Below, and the stairwell in its starting position before any more walls are added or edges of the opening are dragged near the stairs.
  8. Hi all, I'm trying to build an opening in an upper floor that has a wall on one or more sides that's continuous from the first floor. The opening contains a staircase. When I try to align different types of wall edges to the stairs, it generally jumps up to the next floor (or attic). I've tried experimenting with invisible walls creating an opening to the first floor, but no luck so far. I searched through Help, but didn't find it, and don't know what I should be searching for. Any help appreciated!
  9. Hi Jo_Ann... yes, saw that one... would rather not get into manual building However if I did, I'd use a different program to build the geometry, then import.
  10. Ok, thanks In the image, the top chord is above the ceiling plane. I'd like to be able to see the top of the trusses, though I realize this means it would have to simulate the ceiling plane resting on top of the chord. Yes - that's what I did, but any trusses I create after setting the defaults, as noted, revert to 1.5" wide. Hmm... sounds like I have some experimenting to do! Thanks - yes, this is just for a visualization. Thanks, will try that out.
  11. Yes, of course (documentation) - that's what I did to get to the image I posted. I followed this. I searched the forum. FYI my process is typically searching before asking. But like other research, there is a LOT to go through before finding (and in my case, not finding) an answer. And often, a partial answer. Maybe I missed a step (I probably did) - I've gone through it a few times and will again. Since there are settings in different places that have an effect on this, I could have overlooked something basic. And, maybe someone knows the answer(s)...
  12. Morning all, Still pretty new to using HDP and having fun. In regard to trusses, there are a few things I'm trying to figure out. I'm imagining a large room (about 60' x 30') with a shed roof & cathedral ceiling. Pitch is 2:12. 1) I'm able to create trusses, but it seems they must be drawn manually. Is there a way to auto-generate trusses, with either automatically- or manually-chosen spacing? 2) Is there a way to show the top chord of the truss? I looked around but am not sure which setting might do this. 3) I set the default thickness to be 4", but it keeps drawing them at 1.5" thick. How can this be set to stick to the default dimensions? 4) In this image, the truss is disappearing into the ceiling on the left side. Can I lower the truss so that it meets the wall at the roof plane? thanks!
  13. Got it... restart did the trick. I realized something was up when nothing in the edit toolbar was clickable (I couldn't delete any objects, for example.)
  14. Hey Eric - thanks... done but nothing shows up. Also, I don't know if selecting only part of the stair (first set, landing, second set) has any bearing on whether the Auto Stairwell shows up, but I've tried a few combinations and don't see it yet. FWIW though the stairs are showing up properly on the first plan and in 3D, they don't show up on the 2nd floor plan.
  15. Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out how to build a stairwell, and though I see "Auto Stairwell" in the help file, I can't seem to get it to show up. (And I'm not sure where it shows up when it's active.) I've created a super-simple, super-small floorplan just to test it (screenshot attached) and think it meets the requirements. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
  16. Anyone? Would really like to test this feature out...
  17. Hi all, Would someone be able to send me a DAE export of a typical home plan? I'm thinking about upgrading for this export feature, and would like to experiment with importing and rendering in some other software. Thanks!
  18. Thanks Eric - Ok, just to be clear, there is no "automatic" (non-manual) setting to create an interior or "continuous" pass-through window? Attaching a picture of ours for clarity.
  19. Hi, I'm trying to replicate a pass-through window we have in our house, which has a sill that runs through the opening. IN HDPRO, I can only seem to get a sill on each side of the opening, interrupted by other geometry... I'm attaching a screenshot and have colored the sills orange for clarity. I don't know all the framing terminology, so maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I could swear I tried this before and the sill filled in the space properly.
  20. Hey David - thanks as always for the help! It appears that the color (pattern) must be selected via the Wall Types dialog; if edited in Materials, it only changes the fill color, which seems to be overridden by the Pattern in the Wall Types > Define dialog. I'm going to experiment a bit more, but I'm not sure why, exactly, the Material Defaults dialog doesn't work.
  21. Simply, I want to make the default color for the interior side of exterior walls white. If I draw a wall without changing the default color (tan), then change the default color to white, it has no effect, and newly drawn walls still use the default tan color. How can I get this to work? thanks
