    Roof Plane Help!

Thank you so much. I couldn't replicate those results so have just cheated and used a sofit for now.

    Roof Plane Help!

I should add, I'm using the plan purely for aesthetics so it doesn't need to be perfect from a construction stand point. It just needs to look right.

    Roof Plane Help!

Hi there. I've been playing with this and watching/reading tutorials for the past few hours and just can't get it right! I am trying to create three gable roofs over a triple split level dwelling. I can get close, though things aren't quite right. There are gaps and I don't know what to do! Please find the plan attached. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Mum's House.plan
  4. Eric, thank you so much. Yes, that worked for me. What a helpful forum! Out of interest, which version did you open it with originally? My initial question regarding your screen shot was actually in reference to the standard camera view, not the vector. Yours just seems to have more brightness, depth and contrast. My final views are rather dull and flat, even after greatly adjusting lighting configurations. Wondering if there is a trick?
  5. David, thank you SO much. Just watched your video which was fantastic. I really appreciate your time and expertise.
  6. Thank you for trying to help. I'll keep playing around with things.
  7. Wow, okay. that's weird. I'm so confused right now. Why would they look different? That is how mine used to look and how I want it to look again. I remember doing an open below when I first created the stairs though now I can't see the option? I deleted that weird wall though it changed nothing for me. Also, your screen shot looks brighter and has more contrast than mine. Mine is dull and flat. How did you do that? Sorry to bug you. I've had the program for a while though only use it every so often. So much to learn!
  8. Oh, really? Which walls did you delete? I've tried everything and can not fix things! Argh.
  9. Yes, I'm aware I will need height to accommodate the stairs and initially there was a void above the landing only. Not sure how to get this back?
  10. The other issue is in the interior where the sub-floor from the upper-level is visible due to the ceiling having been raised. You can see where the ceiling was originally based on the crown moulding position. It's fine over the living area though has been raised raised from the landing coming backwards.
  11. Thanks for trying to help. Yes, that is part of the problem, though have you fixed it? Mine looks like attached.
  12. Hi all Working on a plan and can not resolve an issue with ceiling height disparency. When I initially added a second floor and some stairs all was fine. As I continued to work on the plan I noticed a problem (no idea when it arose) with mixed ceiling and floor heights. I never altered the ceiling or floor heights so can not work out why this has happened or how to fix it! Not certain, though it seems like the room incorporating the stairs has had the ceiling raised to accommodate enough head room for the landing? You can see where the crown moudling met the original ceiling which is where I would like it to be reinstated. Is there a way to simply open the area above the stairs? If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I have attached the plan. Thank you so much. Extension_and_Alternations.plan
  13. Thanks Eric. Yes, HD had created an invisible wall (I certainly didn't input it) for some reason. Deleted it and the problem resolved. Still wondering if my method (using a half wall, full wall and shape) was the best way to go about replicating the wall? Cheers.

    Open area in wall

Hi all. Trying to replicate the wall in the attached image. Have used both a half wall and a regular full wall though when I abut them it creates a weird angle and assigns a different room to the area where the full wall is (image attached). Am using a shape for the top portion. Is there a better way to go about this? Cheers.
  15. Just in case anyone else is experiencing this issue, I contacted support and it is most definitely a bug. Apparently associated with metric plans (I use metric as I'm based in Australia).
  16. Thanks so much for replying. Yes, I am aware that the 3D Warehouse is a free resource with no QC and I too often discard symbols which don't work properly. Like I mentioned and have shown however, certain symbols which worked for me two weeks ago have suddenly gone haywire, and whereas I could previously use most symbols now I can barely use any at all! This is a big problem for me as I use HD for interior decorating consultations so sorely need more than what is merely offered in the core library. Surely if we are using the exact same program and this exact same symbol works for you though not for me there must be some kind of bug? What is the other explanation?
  17. Just wanted to add, I've been experimenting. Downloaded all SKP versions of this particular object: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/u86a44ae0-14ae-48fa-9080-dd4c94ce8819/Factory-Modern-No-4-Sconce. 2014 and 2015 were able to be imported however they are disjointed (see image attached - bulb and cage are separate and not connected to actual light). 2016 and 2017 were not able to be imported. This is the message I received: "This SKP file was created in an incompatible version. Unable to import". Just wondering if anyone might be willing to try importing the same symbol (as linked to above) and let me know if they experience the same thing? It would be greatly appreciated.
  18. I've recently encountered a strange new problem with most symbols from the 3D Warehouse. Either they are incredibly disjointed and/or the materials are all wrong. These are symbols I have previously used with no problems. Find image attached showing the exact same symbol - one imported a few weeks ago (left) and one imported today (right). I used to be able to use almost any symbol from the 3D Warehouse with no issues. Now I can barely use any at all! Can anyone shed some light on what the issue may be? I really don't understand why symbols work perfectly in Sketch Up though not in Home Designer. I am using Home Designer Pro 2016.
  19. This is the best I can do. Sorry for my ignorance. I generally use HD for interior schemes so exteriors are a bit of a mystery to me.
  20. Thanks. I'm actually trying to achieve something like this (attached). A partial pergola over the balcony which is attached to the existing roof or fascia. The main problem I have is the roof over the adjoining room is supposed to be angled down towards the balcony (as per the example pic) though is currently pitching vertically.
  21. Okay, I worked it out (somewhat) though now I have this issue (see attached image). The roof line is completely wrong and no longer closes.
  22. Yes LawB10. Though how do I create a second floor over the garage alone without it effecting the rest of the house? I did try though it messed-up my other levels (as this is a three split house) and roof lines.
  23. Thanks. I tried removing the roof from the garage alone though then I couldn't work out how to draw the deck over it. The railings kept appearing at ground level.
  24. I'm in the process of re-creating my friend's house though am having trouble replacing the roof over her garage with a flat deck. I know there must be a way though everything I've tried so far has failed. Any help much appreciated.
  25. I've been playing with this for a while. I want to place some sconces above a bed, though not on the wall. I have two flanking cabinets I want to position them on. No matter what I try I can't orient them correctly. They always seem to default to a wall. Is this possible? Cheers
