Thanks. I'll give it a go.

Thank you. I did have a play around using a pass-through though was having trouble due to the casing. So, with this method I can't keep the casing around the opening?

Hi all I've been playing with this for a while and watching videos and reading tutorials though I just can't figure it out! I need to create a half wall in an opening (similar to below). This pic is from a tutorial though it doesn't really explain how to achieve this (or I'm just not getting it). Any ideas? Can someone walk me through how this would be done. This is my plan. I need the half wall to come in behind the kitchen cabinets. These are the pics my client supplied. Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks. I was unaware of this

Hi guys. One of my clients would like a particular light fitting incorporated into her design. I generally use stock models so know very little about creating 3D objects. Whilst it's something I'd love to learn more about one day, I'm on a tight time-line with this project and so far have already spent way too long trying to figure it out in Sketch Up! Was just wondering if anyone knows of an affordable service I can use? Or a really basic program? Have tried editing the photo and using it as a texture PNG with a transparent background on a shape though it just doesn't look good enough. Thanks in advance.

Thank you. I could open the plan though couldn't click on the cabinets. Tried playing around with the overlay and overlap plus the fronts of my cabinet (which I had done previously) though still can't get it to work.

Hi there. Trying to place double sinks in a vanity (custom cabinet) and am having trouble with the separations showing through the sink (as shown). Have tried heaps of different options though can not get it to disappear. Obviously, deleting the separation works though then I lose definition between the vanity drawers and door. I'm sure there is a way to make it work, just can't figure it out. Thanks.

Thanks for replying. Yes, garage has a roof. I was trying to use a railing though have ended up just going with fence panels for ease as I can adjust their position more easily. Not as many customisation options, though it will do the job okay.

Hi there. Am having trouble placing a railing where needed. I'm trying to put it on a custom shape I created though it keeps moving around randomly and defaulting to the below level. Can't then see any way to reset the base height, and transform controls don't allow me to manually move it up higher. Any help appreciated. Image shows the railing which I am trying to place on top of the patio area. I can get it to generate where wanted though it keeps moving down to the garage level.

Thank you. Will take a look

Does anyone have any good resources for realistic looking stone wall textures? I've tried so many images (including many from the Sketchup Texture Club) though they all look flat and fake. I'm pretty handy with Photoshop and have attempted editing several as well, though still no luck. I really like the look of the wall in this rendering.

Thank you David. Yes, my problem must have been the gable roof. The walls I was generating were being cut off under it. Eric, thank you also. I did create a new blank floor as you suggested though like I said, the walls weren't working because of the gable roof. Will see if I can get it right now! Thanks so much.

The image is a scan taken from a plan created by a draftsman. I have attached it purely as a reference to show what I am trying to create. Yes, I'm aware of that though am having trouble due to the tri-level structure. I need to place a second story over the middle section however walls are generating at the height of the lowest section (I think) and I can't figure out how to adjust things. Everything I've tried just looks very muddled.
-
If anyone can show me how to generate a second story over the middle section in this plan I would be so grateful! I've tried several options and I all I get is a jumbled mess. What have I done wrong? Mum's House.plan

Thank you so much. I couldn't replicate those results so have just cheated and used a sofit for now.
-
I should add, I'm using the plan purely for aesthetics so it doesn't need to be perfect from a construction stand point. It just needs to look right.

Hi there. I've been playing with this and watching/reading tutorials for the past few hours and just can't get it right! I am trying to create three gable roofs over a triple split level dwelling. I can get close, though things aren't quite right. There are gaps and I don't know what to do! Please find the plan attached. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Mum's House.plan

Eric, thank you so much. Yes, that worked for me. What a helpful forum! Out of interest, which version did you open it with originally? My initial question regarding your screen shot was actually in reference to the standard camera view, not the vector. Yours just seems to have more brightness, depth and contrast. My final views are rather dull and flat, even after greatly adjusting lighting configurations. Wondering if there is a trick?
-
David, thank you SO much. Just watched your video which was fantastic. I really appreciate your time and expertise.

Thank you for trying to help. I'll keep playing around with things.

Wow, okay. that's weird. I'm so confused right now. Why would they look different? That is how mine used to look and how I want it to look again. I remember doing an open below when I first created the stairs though now I can't see the option? I deleted that weird wall though it changed nothing for me. Also, your screen shot looks brighter and has more contrast than mine. Mine is dull and flat. How did you do that? Sorry to bug you. I've had the program for a while though only use it every so often. So much to learn!
-
Oh, really? Which walls did you delete? I've tried everything and can not fix things! Argh.
-
Yes, I'm aware I will need height to accommodate the stairs and initially there was a void above the landing only. Not sure how to get this back?
-
The other issue is in the interior where the sub-floor from the upper-level is visible due to the ceiling having been raised. You can see where the ceiling was originally based on the crown moulding position. It's fine over the living area though has been raised raised from the landing coming backwards.

Thanks for trying to help. Yes, that is part of the problem, though have you fixed it? Mine looks like attached.
