  1. What is the best way to go about recreating this exterior in terms of the areas which are raised (brick) and recessed (siding)? Particularly the areas of siding above the lower ground windows. I originally drew it out roughly with regular straight exterior walls then realised when I went to apply materials that I'd missed the variation in depths. Played around with some options though just ended up making a mess! Any help appreciated. Thanks.
  2. Thanks so much. My sideways thinking wasn't working well. I ended up importing a bi-fold door symbol and using that though this is a much better method.
  3. Hi all. Is there a way to make cabinet doors bi-fold? I am trying to re-create something like this. Thanks.
  4. Quick question...is there a way to modify the style of internal roll-out shelves? I was wanting roll-out drawers instead (example below). Or will I need to insert them all manually? Thanks.

    Fretwork Ideas

Jo Ann. I've been playing around with using the Custom Backsplash tool though am having trouble creating a uniform arch. I watched Solver's video and that helped a little but I'm still missing something. Do you mind elaborating on how you created your fretwork arches please?

Thank you Solver and JoAnne. I will need to have a play using the Custom Backslash tool as well. Thanks everyone for the help

    Fretwork Ideas

Hi all. Thanks so much for the great advice I always receive through this forum. One of my clients is wanting me to add arched fretwork to the underside of her balcony as per the porch trim as shown in the attached image. I've looked through the incorporated millwork (both included in the library and available through bonus downloads) along with the SketchUp Warehouse, though can't find anything that's quite right. Unfortunately I am far from experienced with 3D modelling from scratch and was just wondering if anyone has any ideas or short-cuts before I try and recreate this look myself. Thank you so much.
  9. Solver, thank you SOOOOOO much! That was incredibly helpful. It also changed the way I was thinking about the whole process which I think was something I really needed. Really can't say thank you enough.
  10. Thanks. Yes, I only care about the front. Sorry, I don't know any of the pitches (or house dimensions for that matter). A friend wanted me to help her with some new facade colour schemes so I am purely using her photos and don't need 100% accuracy (as you will see from my plan so far it's not perfect). I decided it would be a good learning exercise. I have attached the file. Concept 1.plan
  11. I've read the tutorials, I've watched the videos, I've spent hours playing with roof planes though I just can't make this work. I tend to use Home Designer for interiors so exteriors are a bit foreign to me. If anyone can help with some clear and specific advice about how to replicate this roof I would really appreciate it. I've tried building entirely from scratch and modifying the auto roof, I just don't know the best way to go about this. I keep getting weird results and am really struggling. I am producing this for aesthetics only so although I want it to look as close to the photos as possible it doesn't need to be "build" accurate. Sorry, I know they're not the best photos though they're all I have. Thank you.
  12. Thanks. I'll give it a go.
  13. Thank you. I did have a play around using a pass-through though was having trouble due to the casing. So, with this method I can't keep the casing around the opening?
  14. Hi all I've been playing with this for a while and watching videos and reading tutorials though I just can't figure it out! I need to create a half wall in an opening (similar to below). This pic is from a tutorial though it doesn't really explain how to achieve this (or I'm just not getting it). Any ideas? Can someone walk me through how this would be done. This is my plan. I need the half wall to come in behind the kitchen cabinets. These are the pics my client supplied. Any advice much appreciated.
  15. Thanks. I was unaware of this
  16. Hi guys. One of my clients would like a particular light fitting incorporated into her design. I generally use stock models so know very little about creating 3D objects. Whilst it's something I'd love to learn more about one day, I'm on a tight time-line with this project and so far have already spent way too long trying to figure it out in Sketch Up! Was just wondering if anyone knows of an affordable service I can use? Or a really basic program? Have tried editing the photo and using it as a texture PNG with a transparent background on a shape though it just doesn't look good enough. Thanks in advance.

    Vanity and Sink

Thank you. I could open the plan though couldn't click on the cabinets. Tried playing around with the overlay and overlap plus the fronts of my cabinet (which I had done previously) though still can't get it to work.

    Vanity and Sink

Hi there. Trying to place double sinks in a vanity (custom cabinet) and am having trouble with the separations showing through the sink (as shown). Have tried heaps of different options though can not get it to disappear. Obviously, deleting the separation works though then I lose definition between the vanity drawers and door. I'm sure there is a way to make it work, just can't figure it out. Thanks.
  19. Thanks for replying. Yes, garage has a roof. I was trying to use a railing though have ended up just going with fence panels for ease as I can adjust their position more easily. Not as many customisation options, though it will do the job okay.
  20. Hi there. Am having trouble placing a railing where needed. I'm trying to put it on a custom shape I created though it keeps moving around randomly and defaulting to the below level. Can't then see any way to reset the base height, and transform controls don't allow me to manually move it up higher. Any help appreciated. Image shows the railing which I am trying to place on top of the patio area. I can get it to generate where wanted though it keeps moving down to the garage level.
  21. Thank you. Will take a look
  22. Does anyone have any good resources for realistic looking stone wall textures? I've tried so many images (including many from the Sketchup Texture Club) though they all look flat and fake. I'm pretty handy with Photoshop and have attempted editing several as well, though still no luck. I really like the look of the wall in this rendering.
  23. Thank you David. Yes, my problem must have been the gable roof. The walls I was generating were being cut off under it. Eric, thank you also. I did create a new blank floor as you suggested though like I said, the walls weren't working because of the gable roof. Will see if I can get it right now! Thanks so much.
  24. The image is a scan taken from a plan created by a draftsman. I have attached it purely as a reference to show what I am trying to create. Yes, I'm aware of that though am having trouble due to the tri-level structure. I need to place a second story over the middle section however walls are generating at the height of the lowest section (I think) and I can't figure out how to adjust things. Everything I've tried just looks very muddled.
  25. If anyone can show me how to generate a second story over the middle section in this plan I would be so grateful! I've tried several options and I all I get is a jumbled mess. What have I done wrong? Mum's House.plan
