Adding 2nd floor are over existing 1-story section

I have a house with one 2nd floor section; most is one story (with some floor height differences in different areas, some cathedral ceilings in ares).

I want to add a 2nd floor over part of the house adjacent to the existing 2nd floor area.  In this area, there are some existing 2nd-story automatically-generated walls (for gables).  I can't delete them; I can't replace them with new 2nd-floor walls.  How do I fix this without deleting my 2nd floor and starting from scratch (which would be a massive pain; the house i ... complex).

Thanks!

I tried drawing walls/doors that connect as indicated, but there's no floor, and the walls are triangular, same as the existing automatic gable walls, and the roof is still in the old place.  (I think automatic roof is turned off, since it was 'fun' getting the roof somewhere near correct given the complex nature of the house)

The walls you can't delete are attic walls having "no room definition".
You need to draw ALL new walls on the existing 2nd floor (for the addition)  and make sure where they connect to an existing 2nd floor wall,is NOT an "attic" wall, or you will NOT get a "room" (with a floor).

Thanks - I had already tried that, and added doors, starting at the existing 2nd floor.  However, it did not create additional 2nd-floor rooms, and Open Object shows either 0-height walls or gable walls.  3d view shows basically exterior with doors in the middle of gables.
