TedM54
I am trying to create a Dutch gable style roof on an L-shaped floor plan and having little luck. The main house is 40 wide and 30 deep. A 20x20 garage is at the front. The auto-generated roof is higher on the main section than on the garage, which is correct. The wall of the gable on the side extends all the way to front and joins the gable over the garage, and it pokes through the roof to the rear. I am using Home Designer Suite 2025 and apparently I do NOT have access to the manual roof tools. I tried splitting the wall to make the back a rectangle, and then defining the wall above the garage as a hip roof, but that didn't work. How can I fix this? test2.plan
RoyJames
Hello TedM54, After looking at your plan briefly, it looks like you have a wall marked as Dutch Gable instead of Hip. If you change that wall to a Hip wall and turn on Auto Rebuild Roof (Build->Roof->Build Roof), you should see a result like this: I hope this helps! TedM54
Thanks, but I had tried that. I want there to be a third Dutch gable at the corner of the L. The closest I can come is to break the wall at the back of the garage and offset it. This looks better visually, but the wall should be continuous. I am attaching this version of the plan. FYI, the house exists, and I am trying to recreate it so I can look at a new addition. I appreciate the help. test3.plan
Solution RoyJames Posted Friday at 08:38 PM Solution Share Posted Friday at 08:38 PM Hello TedM54, Unfortunately, getting that third Dutch gable in that position is too complex for our roof auto builder at this time. Home Designer Pro should give you the tools to make that happen. However, you can get really close in Home Designer Suite by using the following technique: 1. With Auto Rebuild Roof enabled (Build->Roof->Build Roof), extend your overhang to 1/16” away from the current overhang. I used a value of 24 15/16” (originally 18”) 2. Turn off Auto Rebuild Roof 3. Align your walls where they should be I hope this helps!
