MikeInMich
I'm a new user to Home Designer 2021. I'm quite a way along with my Cape Cod style house design, but I have a seemingly random issue with joining walls, that results in a room "bleeding" into the attic. A room definition is not allowed. The first, leftmost attached file shows an interior 4 knee wall attempting to join a siding 6 exterior wall. I know I am in trouble when the vertical line within the red circle is present. I am also getting an error message that may or may not be related to this problem. The knowledge base has no additional information for this error and although the message refers to "this wall" I have not been able to find any indication of what "this" refers to. If said error message is not related to the joining issue, I will repost a separate question. I have several knee walls on this Cape Cod second floor, including an almost exact mirror image of the below intersection on the other side of the house with no issue. It is shown in the second snip. Note there is no verticle line within the circle. I know there is a "joining tool" that puts up yellow triangles, and I've seen that often, but said tool doesn't seem to apply to this case. Thanks for any help you can give me. Mike.
Solution MikeInMich Posted July 15, 2022 Author Solution Share Posted July 15, 2022 Thanks Eric. I added my signature with version info. In the meantime, I solved the subject problem. The problematic wall was checked as "no room definition". Not sure why, but I had some nearby rooms with ceiling issues. I had tried to unclick box this a few times and my roof went crazy. So, I turned off "auto build roof", then unchecked "no room definition", and it worked. I have a few other issues that I will post if I can't figure them out. Thanks. Jo_Ann
It sounds like you are trying to use the 'attic' space as your 2nd floor, and the software does not allow that. Search the Knowledge Base for 'Cape Cod ', and then view the directions for "Automatically Building a One and a Half Story Roof".
MikeInMich
Thanks Jo_Ann. I'll definitely review the Cape Cod posts.
