Jo_Ann
You manually build them as 'rooms' on the 2nd floor (separated from the main floor by invisible walls, and with a normal ceiling height). Not auto dormers. The roof will then build around them, but not in front of them.
Kbird1
If they are true Dormers , Jo_Ann's method works , (see Pic) , if they are really floating Dormers ( no walls in room) then Jo will have to advise what HDA is capable of , or what the workaround is since she has HDA. Kbird1
Bob , I think you caps lock key is on ? not sure what the issue is though ? you don't want gable roofs? , then change the Wall>Roof directives on the Dormers , same as any other wall to built hip or Shed. might be time to check the manual or the KnowledgeBase here http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/database.html specifically : http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00359/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Automatically-Building-the-Basic-Roof-Styles.html
