John7777
This is my first time posting in this forum. Enjoying the learning process of this software. I am having trouble finding help on a specific roof issue and was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. I've looked through both manuals and the help videos on building a manual roof, but can't seem to get one section of my roof correct. I am trying to place a Shed style roof over the main living area which intersects with a Gable style roof over the garage. The garage Gable roof is rendering fine but the Shed style roof over the main living area is rendering with unwanted vertices. I have been able to get the roof close to what I want by setting the properties of the living area outside walls to High Shed/Gable, then under Build Roof I unchecked Use Existing Baselines option, but it's rendering extra vertices that I would like to remove from the roof lines. I have attached photos (with problem roof marked with a yellow arrow) and relative screenshots as well as the plan. Thank you in advance for any help! Jo_Ann
The wall to the right of the door, and the 2 short walls on each side of the window bump-out, need to be set as gable walls. To extend the roof next to each side of the bump-out, use the gable/roof line tool (look in the toolbar roof icon). Check your reference manual or the knowledge base for info about the gable/roof line tool.
Kbird1
Jo_Ann is correct all your walls need to be set to Full gable , the High Shed setting is basically only for telling the software what is the High side of a Shed Roof , the two side walls would still be Full Gable ...check you manual for Shed Roof if you don't quite follow what I am saying. You have Pro , so have Manual Roof Tools , so can drag the rooflines out/in etc as needed, so check out the Manual Roof Tools too, http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00415/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Creating-Hip-and-Gable-Roofs-Manually.html I find I don't need to play with Base/Gable line much at all myself. here is a tutorial though.... http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00062/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Using-the-Gable-Roof-Line-Tool.html http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00544/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Modifying-a-Roof-Baseline.html this might help too http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00388/52/Home-Designer/Roofs/Extending-a-Roof-Plane-Over-a-Bumpout.html and it would be a good idea to add your info to your forum signature so you don't need to add it to each post in the future. ie John Burns Chief Architect Professional 2016 Version 17.1.2.20SXMacbook Pro OSX Yosemite
