  1. Problem fixed: My hallway had 10+ pictures (frames with material on them) on the walls. Evidently they overloaded the memory when recording the walk thru. I deleted the material from the frames that were not clearly visible in the distant view and then I could record the walk thru. eraser
  2. I have made over 10 successful walk through recordings with my plan but one recording of a walk through of two rooms continues to lock up the computer every time. Any help appreciated. Jim Home Design Suite 2015 Win 7-64 bit 16 GB Ram 8 GB Video Card i5 Intel cpu 1T HDD
  3. You probably already have figured out what to do but here goes. The area under the stairs changes the floor height so that when the walkthrough path enters that area, the camera goes upward to the stairs height. You will have to adjust your camera height in the "Walkthrough Specification Box" to a negative number to keep the camera steady. You will have to set camera points close together to accomplish this. Clear as mud???
  4. Problem solved. I found the answer on this website. It makes you run around the barn to get to the hen house but it works. Import your picture as a material and then paste it on a frame as a mirror material. Thanks for your help. 5. Thanks David but I do clear them up in my Adobe Photoshop prior to adding them to my program. If I "Import" the pics and try to paste them, they always end up on the floor. I have been uploading them into my "user file" in the Library. Is there a way to paste them on the walls? I will attach the original pic below. Jim
  6. I have recreated my old High School and am importing pictures of the graduating seniors to be pasted on the hallway walls. The picture images are too dark for quality. I have posted images in jpg, bmp, png, and tif. They are all too dark. Using Architect 2015, Win 7-64 bit, 16 gb ram, i5, 8 gb video card. The images when viewing in Windows are teriffic. Any help appreciated.
  7. Your imported furniture has a 0" to ground setting. Change the setting to the dimension height of the 2nd story floor. When importing furniture, I placed it outside on the ground. Then I set the ground to bottom dimension in the "Open Object" menu and moved the furniture into the room.
  8. I have been using my TurboCad 18 program to handle such items. I had to learn how to make 3D objects to import into my Home Designer program. First I would make an simple extrusion of your floor slab and make it the height without the drain. Then make a cone, which inverted will make the slope to your drain. Position the upside down cone into the floor slab and then subtract it and it will leave your drain slope.
  9. When I run into a software conflict, I turned to my "TurboCad" software to bail me out. Prior to working in CA Home Designer, I had never delved into 3D work. Now I just make my own eaves and glue them on where ever needed. Same goes for a flat roof. Just paste a flat box on top and change the material to shingles. I was rebuilding my old high school building (44,000 sq ft). Needless to say, the software bogged down quite a bit by the end of my project but it did get finished. The walkthroughs were super and the final dvd was the tops to my virgin attempt. Thanks CA.
  10. Atta boy, LenB. Us newbies need to stick together. OK, back to the questions. This is my first building. It has 44,000 sq. ft. in it. I thought that the cheaper??? version might do the job since I didn't want to layout a grand to get the better version. I learned fast that if the cheaper software package has a good manual to start off it sets the tone of what is to come. Manual??? You call that little booklet a manual? Moving right along...on to the Helpful??? videos. I think that I can make a straight line. How about videos on the hard stuff and for us old people, don't talk so fast. My biggest peeve is that thing that is called the "Structure window" in the Room Specification area. Please work on that area before I croak. ribbit, ribbit, ribbit :-) eraser Oh, I almost forgot. In the "Library" when you open a sub directory, wouldn't it be nice to have the new menu visible on the screen without scrolling down. The same problem happens when viewing the "Index" in the Home Design User Guide pdf file. OK, enough blah for now before they call me and have me talk to someone in India.

    Lighting Issues

I have found that Chief Architect has a very limited variety of light fixtures in their library. I tried to download a SKP light fixture. When I imported it into my floor plan, it was upside down and I was unable to flip it either in Home Design or in my TurboCad. I previously created the look that I wanted in my cad program and saved it as a 3ds object. It looked good and loaded good. Now, how on earth do you turn it on? The lights from the library have an icon at the bottom of the window to turn them off and on but not my fixture. Does the 3ds file have to be set up as a light when created? Any help appreciated. I have found very little help from Chief Architect's website. Another thing, I get no shadows in my 3d views. Thanks
