RollingStone,
Sorry to say, but you have to delete the terrain perimeter on the second floor and create on the first floor.
You can check this to see why....click on the terrain perimeter and open, in the terrain specification uncheck automatic
and put in a positive value say 60" you will see what happens, if you give it a negative value say -60" you will see what happens.

Kbird,
Suite doesn't have that option.

Vman,
First build you're stairs, in the style specification box uncheck everything and change the overhang to 0
In the railing specifation box uncheck railing on: both left and right.
Click on the wall tool and choose the half wall tool and make a room, making sure the stairs are touching the walls and add a doorway.
Make the room larger than the stairs and edit, uncheck the roof and ceiling box, you may have too adjust floor© to -10 or lower
Open Moldings, uncheck the default and delete the base and crown moldings. Click OK and readjust the walls back to the stairs
Open the materials library and go for it.
If the stairs are not touching the walls, the walls won't follow the stairs.
If you use the rail tool, the rail won't follow the stairs.
The attached examples are with and without a landing.

I don't know if HD10 automatically frames, if it does you don't have to frame it yourself, the program does it for you.
click 3D~ camera view~framing overview you should see that the plan or room is framed.

Thanks guys, both steps works, just to easy LOL..
I should have said frameless instead of caseless.

Folks I understand all that and I get it.
I interpreted that to mean even if turned off in 3d the gable and vaulted ceiling attic wall stayed, everything else disappeared.
This issue started after I installed the update, I didn't have that problem before.

QUESTION
How can I turn off the display of the Attic walls that the program automatically generates so that I don't see them in my floor plan views?
Each view -- Plan, 3D, has its own set of display options.
If you turn off the display of attic walls in the 3D view, they will not show.
If you turn them off in plan view, they will not display in plan view, but will display in 3D views.
solver,
Each plan you create has it's display options set by you the user. Other than that, the options are the same.
Respectfully, you're response does not answer the question. The four (4) images are in 3d view, further it doesn't matter what view your in 2d or 3d if the option is turned off, the attic walls will not show. As the article states :
Now automatically generated Attic Walls will no longer display in your floor plan view, yet will still fill in the gaps between your Full Gable Walls and roof planes in 3D Camera views.
This is what it's NOT doing.

I used a soffit as I wanted the roof of the porch to be flat. I've done it before and didn't get attic walls.
Keith,
In the future if you want a flat roof, click on each wall for that room, in wall the specification click on roof and make the pitch 1/4".

perhaps I misunderstand ? but if you don't allow Attic walls to display ( in Display Options) what would you expect too see ? , the Walls are likely generating , you just aren't allowing them to show....
M.
Kbird and solver,
I think you guys miss the point, according this article in the KB http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-01102/ the attic/gable wall should generate even if the attic wall display option is turned off. That is purpose of that option so that you don't see them in 3d views. As we know they can make
the room(s) look ugly. lol
