  1. The customer wants the brick painted white. I just haven't changed the materials yet. I would like to learn your technique for making the gable in the center of the house. Did you build the roof manually or auto? Your model is what I was trying to achieve with the addition of the gable over the front porch.
  2. Great tutorial. To the point and simple. That's exactly what I'm trying to accomplish. I guess my only question would be how can I raise the top plate of the front wall without raising the interior ceiling height. This would give me more slope over the front porch. This detail is in every picture the customer sends me from Pinterest. She wants that farmhouse look.
  3. I'm sorry I'm having trouble getting a screenshot but I attached the new plan with the changes. I'm trying to make the shed roof over the porch so that the rafters will rest on the front wall of the house. Butler_Plan.plan
  4. I got it. I had to draw the room divider on the first floor. Thank you.
  5. The first picture that is.
  6. Yes. That's exactly what I'm trying to accomplish. How did you achieve that? I tried drawing a room divider on the attic floor but it told me to create a second floor.
  7. I have attached a plan I am working on. The front door of the plan creates an alcove over which I created a gable roof. What I'm having trouble figuring out is how to make the gable end a straight wall instead of an alcove. This will create a flat ceiling over the alcove. I will also be trying to figure out how the add a 4 in 12 shed roof over the front porch but figured it might be easier after I figured out the gable end. Any suggestions? 8. I must not have the right options picked. When I try the auto dormer, the floating dormer says "cannot place dormer here, other walls are in the way" and the auto dormer says "can't find a wall to place the rear of this dormer". I found a tutorial on youtube for manual dormer but it requires drawing a polyline over the the walls and converting it to a hole in roof. When I open the convert dialogue for the polyline in my program, I don't have that option.
  9. I'm looking for some help building a bonus room dormer. I have attached a plan I am working on and have laid out the interior 2nd floor walls. I turned off auto rebuild roofs so the original roof wouldn't do anything crazy. Now I am trying to build the dormer. I've watched a few tutorials but haven't been successful in translating them into my plan. Slaven_2.plan
  10. That was a good video. I will admit I didn't know there were Youtube videos for Chief Architect. I had only watched the tutorials from the video help section of the website. Pulling the porch roof back from under the wall worked. I'm not sure how all of the breaks were added to my manually built roof planes and therefor I am not good at cleaning them up. I will take some time this week to try and learn more about manual roof building from Youtube. Thank you so much for your time and help.
  11. I'm sorry I'm not getting this quickly. The gable wall still needs to line up over the front wall of the house for framing purposes. Lancaster Plan.plan
  12. Well, It was on there for a minute. It has now disappeared.
  13. "Roof cuts wall at bottom" worked. Thank you so much for your time.
  14. I have attacked the plan as it stands now. Still can't figure out why I can't generate a gable wall on the front. Lancaster Plan.plan
  15. Thank you David. That was an excellent tutorial. I was able to figure out the large gable walls as you have shown. The gable wall in question however is a smaller gable on the front of the house. I realize the front is not easily identifiable because I have not installed doors and windows yet. I have added a small gable as shown by Eric's example a few posts back. The opening I'm trying to create is through the larger roof plane underneath; almost like a dormer.
  16. Also it did not generate the gable wall. How did you generate the gable in your example?
  17. I was trying that while waiting on a reply and was able to get the gable. Thank you. Now how do I create the opening in the main roof so it will be open to the attic? The customer wants a window in the gable. I told them that it would only open into the attic and will be purely decoration but I feel like they will still need to be able to access the window from the attic for any unforeseen maintenance.
  18. I had auto roofs turned off because I had to manually draw the porch roof and main roof as the customer originally wanted. They decided then that they wanted a small gable on the front of the house to add curb appeal. I tried using the gable tool to add this and was getting nothing. If I now turn on auto roofs, will my already constructed roof planes be altered?
  19. In the attached plan, I am attempting to add a gable to the front of the house. The gable will rest on the front wall and will not extend the full length of the wall. I have tried the gable tool but have been unable to get the correct result. I'm not sure if its because of the porch having a separate roof plane or what. Any suggestions? Lancaster Plan.plan

    Shed Roof

I am trying to create a shed roof over this front porch. I want the eave height to match the rest of the house. The shed roof pitch will be a 4 in 12 and I want the top of the shed to tie into the main roof wherever they meet. The problem with all the tutorials I've seen is that the top of the shed will not fall over another wall. When I click "join roof planes" it brings the eave of the main roof to the top of the shed. I also changed the side walls to gable as discussed in a few tutorials to close in the ends of the shed. However, since this is a porch and has invisible walls, the ends do not close as you can tell from the attached picture. Any suggestions? Richards.plan
  21. There are no rooms. Only attic space.
  22. I found the problem. When I went to the second floor, the attic walls were indicated by a dashed line. I had selected the walls before and thought I had reviewed everything but when checking again, I noticed that in the wall specification page, the "invisible" box was checked. Thank you for your help Eric.
  23. The Auto rebuild attic walls was checked. There are no attic walls. I have a vaulted ceiling in the living room and there is also no wall in the vaulted area. I tried drawing the walls manually on the second floor but ran into problems there as well. I will try again and report back with specifics.
  24. I do have attic walls set to display. I was unable to find automatically build attic walls.
  25. Sorry. I had to go back and learn how to screenshot. I'm not sure how it would show up in the plan since it is part of or directly over the first floor wall.
