Room wont select

Working in HD Pro 2025. Trying to design a 1 1/2 story where we raise the back half of the roof.  For some reason the program wont allow we to select the main upper level room.  We are dong a 2nd level deck and when I draw that and select it the program thinks the deck and the 2nd level is one room.  Other whacky things are going on like a window in an upper level side wall is covered by sheathing, but I think this is the root problem.
