Keith_K
I might be on a roll with questions today so please bear with me. I have done the terrain arrangement and now I would like to do some road markings (i.e. yellow cross hatching to show disabled parking bays and white lines to demarcate normal parking bays). I found "road markings" in the library somewhere but couldn't work out how to use the and have gone through the manual and searched the help data base to see if I could find a way of doing this (preferable in plan view) but without success. Please guide me on the path of right... Thanks.
Kbird1
Haven't done this before Keith ,but you are right there is nothing in my Ref. Manual or the online help in Pro 10.The items in the Library are materials though not objects/symbols , so those two colours need assigning to something ...but what ?will post back if I figure it out...M.Edit The "What" is another Terrain Feature on top of the Road (very thin) , which you then colour as needed with the materials in the library. Not in the manual but there is a Tutorial.http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00864/ they actually appear to cut through the asphalt if set at the same height/thickness
Keith_K
Yay! Thank you for that link. I wonder why my "How to create road markings" in the help search box didn't bring it up? One would think that "road markings" would have been the key.
Kbird1
If you search here you won't get it but over at the KnowledgeBase (KB) you will plus a couple others on creating custom driveways and Sidewalks with patterns and inlays http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00843/ http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00774/222/Home-Designer/Driveways/Creating-Custom-Driveways-and-Sidewalks.html
baitmkalacqua
Hi, You’re on the right track — road markings in this workflow can be a bit confusing at first, especially if you're hoping to draw them directly in a plan view. Here are a few practical ways to handle yellow hatching, white bay lines, etc.: 1. Use a single road-marking texture on a plane For things like cross-hatching or parking bay lines, the easiest method is to create a simple plane over the road surface and apply a material with an opacity map. White or yellow lines = white on the mask Transparent areas = black This keeps everything tidy and easy to edit. 2. Group multiple markings into one texture Instead of placing dozens of individual objects, pack all the markings (bays, hatch areas, arrows, etc.) into a single texture. This gives you precise control and avoids clutter in your scene. 3. Use decals only for unique symbols If your library has “road markings” decals, they’re great for arrows, disabled-bay icons, or text. For basic lines or grids, they get cumbersome — you’re right to avoid spamming the scene with them. 4. Work in plan view for alignment You can switch to top view (orthographic) to line everything up cleanly. Just toggle ortho mode → position your plane → scale the texture until the markings line up with your parking layout. If it helps, here’s a simple workflow guide I use: your link here (https://roadskymarking.com/) If you want, I can also show you how to set up the opacity map or share a template texture for parking bays. Hope this gets you on the “path of right”!
