  1. When using the House Wizard tool, I note that it automatically deducts 4" in between rooms when placing them together. For example, I have a need to fill a 20' x 25' space with a sitting room, bedroom, closet, and bath. So I used the wizard to create a 20x25 bedroom block. I then created a bedroom, bathroom, living room, and closet block and adjusted the sizes to fit within the original 20x25 space. The dimensions of the rooms were different, but understandably so. The bedroom was first and is 12x12. Bathroom was next and the dimensions displayed were 7'8" x 7'. This spans the entire 20' width of the space, and the outside perimeter of the two blocks exactly line up with the perimeter of the reference block. So I asked myself how does 12' plus 7'8" add up to 20' and I realized the answer is because there is a wall between the two rooms. OK, that made sense, but the actual dimension does not. A 2x4 stud wall with a layer of drywall on each side is going to be 4.5" wide, not 4". And common building practices do not use 1/4" drywall except for shaping curved surfaces. So is there somewhere in the preferences or default settings where I can specify that the wall thickness between rooms in the House Wizard are 4.5" thick instead of 4"?
  2. Eric, see pict attached
  3. Double click on the text you wish to change. When the DBX opens you will see a box at the top of the window where you can set the font size. However, before you can change the size you must first select the font in the window.
  4. So Kirk, If I understand correctly, to see framing for floor 1 I need to be looking at floor 0. Now that I understand this I can move forward knowing I DON'T have a problem (other than my understanding how program works) Thank you everyone.
  5. Jo_Ann, first of all thank you very much for the tips regarding the basement entry. I had followed an article about daylight basements and thought everything was OK. As for the " Build>Framing>Build Framing, and (in the dbx box) I put a check mark in the 'Build Floor Framing' box. The rim joists and floor joists all suddenly appeared! ", when you reached the DBX were you on the foundation tab or on the 1st tab? If I start on the first floor and open the build framing DBX, I land on the 1st tab, and there is no "build floor framing" checkbox for the first floor, only for the second floor which is grayed out because there is no second floor. If I start in the basement and open the DBX, I land on the Foundation tab. I DO check the box for "build floor framing" for subfloor for Floor 1, but I still do not see the floor framing in the plan view. Again, maybe it is just me, but I thought that if I can build ceiling framing and see it in plan view then I should be able to build floor framing and see it in plan view.
  6. There are no "corner" cabinets in the menu. You create a wall or base cabinet and then open the DBX to change it to a corner cabinet. Not sure though how a corner cabinet is going to work for a refrigerator end panel.
  7. Still wonder why I cannot see the floor framing in the first floor plan view though. I am sure I am not doing something right but cannot figure out what it is.
  8. So I guess the "workaround" for this is to go down to basement level and "Build/Framing/Build Framing" at the foundation level and build the basement ceiling, which in turn IS the first level floor framing.
  9. Yes I am clicking OK, I even tried Automatic Floor/Ceiling Framing check box. I see no errors.
  10. Kirk, attached is a framing perspective overview. Note the gap between basement walls and first floor walls. I looked to be sure the floor framing layer is displayed in this view.
  11. Well it STILL doesn't $%##& work here! This really is getting to me. First I had all those issues with siding showing vertical instead of horizontal, and now this. And I have not had these issues till now. I guess it really is time for a new laptop. GRRRRRR.
  12. Using the attached file, I try to build floor framing, but it fails to appear. It builds the ceiling framing, and when I go to the Foundation Framing DBX I make sure I specify build ceiling framing and build floor framing for the subfloor for floor 1.

    Snaps tutorial

My question may have nothing to do with snaps but I guessed it might. I have been asked to provide dimensioned drawings now for a customer's builder to look at. IF I decide to send these, there will be a HUGE disclaimer included that the drawings need to be approved by an architect before the builder proceeds to use them for anything. The builder in question stated that he rounds his measurements to the nearest 1/4 or 1/8 inch (I do not remember which fraction he stated on the phone). That means that I need to either redesign the entire structure or re-dimension it all using manual dimensions and round those dimensions according to his preference. My question is, how does one design a building so that the walls snap to rounded dimensions? Is there a tutorial available regarding this topic?
  14. I made it simple on myself, although this always seemed to NOT work in other situations. I opened an elevation view, then clicked on a footing for a wall I wished to change. I dragged bottom of footing down to the new height, then dragged the top down to give the footing the correct thickness. Then clicked the stem wall and dragged it down. Then clicked the framed wall and dragged it down. Voila, I was done with one wall! I then proceeded to do the same for all the other offending walls. Thanks for the replies guys!
  15. Had an existing plan with garage floor, stem walls, house foundation, etc all nicely aligned. Then customer asked for a daylight basement. Because the property is virtually flat, for miles around, I had to raise the house. This placed the garage slab in mid air, which I corrected by placing the garage floor at -78 7/8". Now I noticed after looking at an elevation that the stem wall sticks up almost 6' above the garage floor. I want to drop the stem wall top down so it is only about 8" above the floor but every number I change in the Room Spec DBX changes a different number in the DBX. I want the ceiling to stay right where it is, I want the floor to stay right where it is. I want the roof to stay right where it is. All I wish to do is change the walls so that the concrete stem wall is only 8" above the floor and the rest of the wall becomes wood frame.
  16. Well, the first laptop I purchased had an NVidia graphics card as recommended when I first purchased HDPro 2012. But I had a lot of trouble making it work, so I returned that laptop the next day and purchased THIS one because it was advertised as having 1GB of video RAM and 2GB system RAM. I upgraded the laptop to 6GB of system RAM. Anyway, thank you all for your input here. I have resigned myself to having to purchase either version 2016 (which it is stated supports integrated video) or else purchasing a new laptop.
  17. Windows 7, Intel video, and I went direct to Intel. Here is the catch. HD support now tells me that this video board was not supported til HDPro 2015. But the software has worked perfectly for several years without displaying this oddity. I could use this as an excuse to replace the laptop, or to upgrade to the latest HDPro. But that is complicated by the fact that it worked OK for so long. IF this problem had presented itself with the first plan I developed, or at least the first plan using this siding, then I could accept the explanation. No, I think there is something else wrong here. I had attempted to reinstall the HDPro software, and in the process it asked me if I wish to repair, which I selected. 10 seconds into the "repair" a new screen appeared telling me the process had been interrupted, but I had not touched it. And support does not have any advice on that problem.
  18. Nice comeback DJP. Now allow me a bit of the same. I submitted a case to support, and included the drawing file that is displaying this phenomena. In the reply back the tech told me "I did nothing to the file but back up the entire plan, send it to a compressed folder and return it to you. It is my hope that when you open the file the problem will be solved". After I downloaded the file and opened it, I found that the siding DID display properly. So I saved it. Upon opening it to do work later in the day I found to my horror that the vertical siding issue had returned. BUT I HAD DONE NOTHING BUT OPEN, LOOK AT PERSPECTIVE VIEW, SAVE, AND REOPEN. I have run a scan of my laptop, and ran CHKDSK for errors. Nothing found. Upon recommendation of the Tech I updated the video driver. This only made problem worse, displaying a checkerboard grid on the siding. So I restored the older driver. Obviously something is wrong, and I would be happy to take responsibility for it, if only I knew what it was. So, please get down off your soapbox David, and try to avoid making comments like you just did unless you really have an answer.
  19. I understand that I could click open when downloading files, or I can click save. If I click save, that means I will have a copy of the calibz file on my system, and that I then have to still open that file to install it in the HDPro library. AND, if my system ever crashes and the HDPro software needs to be reinstalled (i.e. on a replacement PC), then I will have to reinstall all those calibz downloads individually. So, my question is this. Where is the entire installed library kept, and can I simply copy it from a backup media if I ever had to reinstall my software? Or is the library hopelessly entangled with index files and other things that render it useless unless the proper "install" steps are followed?

    Deck skirting

Aahh, I see the download is designated X7/2016, and I am using 2014. I guess that is the reason.

OK, so I have downloaded and installed BOTH sets of lattice material within these posts. And I cannot find the "material" referred to by Kat.
  22. I submitted a support case with a pict of 4 views (plan, camera, dollhouse, perspective). Camera and dollhouse views worked fine but perspective was wrong. Support person responded that it could not be reproduced on his end but he saved the file on his end and sent it back to me. I opened it and it looked fine again. I will look into video updates, but that makes no sense to me because it WAS working fine up to a point.
  23. Am modeling a house with a front door that has sidelight windows next to it. I could not find a way to match the appearance of the sidelights to the door, so I ended up placing a very narrow door on either side of the main door. If anyone knows a better way to do this please advise. Meantime, on to my main topic. This same door also has a single large glass window above the doorway, similar to a transom, but I cannot see a way to place a window in a wall in the same location a door is.
  24. OK, as of today the second RV bay has been deleted. Those funds were redirected toward a full basement. Plan attached.
  25. I am really beginning to doubt the quality of this product. I am sure a lot of these complaints I have can be attributed to user error, but I cannot avoid thinking that maybe the user errors are caused by flaws in the way the program operates. Attached is a screen shot taken of the same house with two different views. One is a full camera view which shows the siding as it was intended in the horizontal mode. The other is a perspective full overview which shows the same house now has the siding placed vertically. I changed nothing between showing these two views. Now, if this is indeed a user problem, I reiterate my belief that the program should not allow the user to make whatever changes that cause this error. If however it is a program error, I need to know what will be done to correct it. Also attached is the plan file this error came from.
