  1. I want to do this too. Attached is a snipped image with the area shown on plan in a dotted red circle where I want to create a cabinet that wraps around this corner angle. Any help would be much appreciated. (Couldn't attached the file as it is too big.) I'm also working with 2016 HOme Designer Pro. Thank you.
  2. Is there a way to clip the top and bottom off a cross section/elevation so I don't get all the floors of my drawing in my view? I have always used wall elevation views to address this, but they don't show any building layers and sometimes I need to show those. I know how to back and side clip but I feel like there should be a way to show only the current floor when you use the 3D / Orthographic/ Cross-section Elevation tool. I've attached an image. I just want to show the basement in this drawing but have all three floors showing. Thank you to anyone who might be able to help.
  3. Thanks, Eric. This was exactly the problem I was having and through this fantastic forum and search function I came straight to your solution.
  4. Thanks, Eric, yes, my post ended up being about too many things; I realised that right after I pressed send.
  5. Hi everyone, I've used Home Designer Pro 2016 for 6 years and have referred to tutorials and the manual as I've slowly learned how to use the software but I'm still finding there are a lot of things where I cannot achieve the result I am looking for. This may be because I just haven't achieved enough depth of understanding (likely for many of them) or it may be because the software does not address it yet. I'm at a point where I need to decide whether to update to the current version OR investigate other software packages, but I'd prefer to stay with what I have so I don't have to learn another new package. Can anyone tell me whether the current software addresses the following? Or maybe my old version does already and I just don't know how to do it. Door/drawer panels on cabinets appear in sectional views but not in plan view, so the relationship and dimensions of an overhang and a cupboard appears correctly on the plan but incorrectly in sectional elevations. Maybe there is a way to draw this to achieve correct detailing in both views? Often I need to do a decorative end panel on a cabinet - does the new version allow for this? I'd like to have more control for applying finishes such as tiles so that I can determine my setout points - can I do this? I need more flexibility for drawing cabinets, such as specifying different finishes for cabinet backs/sides, and being able to split the cabinets into different sections with different treatments. I find the supplied 3D content limited and am trying to move towards using imported BIM content but I've found that most manufacturers seem to be providing Revit 3D content, which does not seem to be able to be imported into HD Pro. Do I have that right or should I be able to bring in Revit 3D formats? Maybe it's just that my version is too old to accept it? I'd like to be able to create a legend using the objects that represent the items in my drawing, especially for electrical items. I've just created all my legends manually, but is there a better way? I'd like some help understanding how to manipulate wall definitions without having to define a whole new wall each time I need to make a change to a wall. e.g. is there a simple way to make a change to single wall's definition without changing the definition for that wall type? Maybe I haven't been doing it right? Very importantly, I'd like to be able to create my own layers, and move things on and off layers so I can switch things on and off for viewing/printing. This has been a huge limitation - please tell me the new version allows this .... Another important thing - I always need to do site surveys and create an accurate drawing of the existing building. While I may then do demolition or additions that change the existing built structure, I always want to be able to see that existing structure. Is there a way to create the drawing and then copy it in place and convert/treat it as an "existing" or reference level so that I can always see it there but it won't change as I design the new space? Dimensioning - when I have multiple rooms and dimension all the spaces, it means that dimensions for one room have to be positioned "in" the adjacent room, which means they might be over furniture or other items and the drawing looks messy. Is there a way to send only a particular room or space (and the dimensions for it) to my layout so the drawings look much better? If not, how do you all deal with this issue? Do you just put dimensions on to separate layers and switch them on and off as needed? These are just a few and I would be so grateful if anyone has any input that could help me decide whether to upgrade. One of my contacts is referring me to ArchlineXP as the new standard, especially in Europe, but it's another software learning curve ..... (long sigh!) Many thanks,
  6. Oh, of course, I am in the habit of using floor camera in preference to full camera and hadn't thought about that. Thanks very much.
  7. I've created stairs from a basement up to a first floor level (which we would call a ground floor here in Australia) and while they appear correctly in plan and elevation views, they do not appear in the 3D views. Below are views from the first floor (i.e. ground floor) in both directions (looking down where the stairs should be, and looking from where the stairs should be) and there is just an empty space where the stairs should be going down. The stairs you see are the next flight going up. I've also provided a plan view with the area in question circled and the basement level shown as a reference floor. Are there some things I've forgotten to do that would make the stairs appear? I've checked that all the stairs and landings are starting and beginning at the right levels and I have an "open below" room type on the first floor. I can't think of anything else and would really appreciate your help. Thank you in advance.
  8. When I draw an arc (with an arrow) I now have a marker showing the centre of the circle. This only started recently. Can I get rid of it? Thank you. Lynette Home Designer Pro 2016
  9. Hi Eric, That seems to have worked! I never would have thought of that - thank you so much.
  10. Hello everyone, I have a problem I've not been able to solve and would love some guidance - it's probably a simple thing. As an interior designer I often draw for fitout purposes, not construction, especially when my built elements are remaining untouched (such as windows). I therefore don't bother with the hidden elements of a built structure such as rough openings for windows, and simplify the drawing by making those 0mm. The issue you see below is that the wall covering is not fully wrapping the edge of the wall where the window is created. I often need to show a window that has a shallow frame (only the depth of the window component) AND is recessed into the depth of the wall AND has the interior wall covering (in this case a tile) returning to the frame of the window on all 4 surfaces of the window reveal. How can I do this? The ugly brick edge is of course covered when I fit the frame to the wall but I have many jobs without casings where the finish returns to the recessed window frame so I really need to work this one out. Many thanks for your help and I hope I'm using all the right terminology - in Australia we use a lot of different architectural terminology.
  11. Hi David, That is a MUCH easier way to create a shower wall - thank you. I used that technique to change the fixed wall first, and yes, it now appears in the elevation, however it is opaque and I need to be able to see through it to show that there is tiling and a wall niche behind it. Is there a way to make it appear transparent in the orthos? I'm using the same tempered glass material that I used for the railing so the properties should be exactly the same. I haven't changed the sliding door side of the shower yet because I need that wall to have a triple panel frameless slider and when I used a shower door style each of the panels is framed. Perhaps I have to leave that one as a railing (which is how I split the panels to look frameless). I am still on an old version of Home Designer so perhaps the updated version has more options that aren't available to me. I really appreciate your help, David. As a home based part time designer who has learned to use this software "later in life" I spend a lot of time searching and figuring out how to do things so it's a big help to have some extra support. Many thanks.
  12. Hi all, I'd be so grateful if anyone is able to help me to understand why a "railing" is not displaying? I've created a corner shower by using two "Glass Shower" walls and then I made them into railings so I can set the height I want. The wall that opens to the vanity is a 3 panel slider which I created using the newels. It all displays perfectly in 3D camera/perspectives so I know they are there but they don't show up in my orthographic wall elevations. Any ideas why? They are not marked invisible. I can't work it out. (Note: the header across the top is an extra "partition" I created for the sliding door header, not a handrail). Thanks so much in advance. Lynette Home Designer Pro 2016
