  1. Too bad there isn't any direct way, like you can do with other text and dimension, etc. Yes I have used the manual label option which seems more like a work-around than simply dragging the label that is there and moving it. I did see in one of the videos where they rotated a corner base cabinet label 45 deg, but in the video they kind of did it without explaining how to do it. It was a corner base cabinet with a corner wall cabinet above it. I couldn't find the video again today while I was searching fr it. Thanks for the quick responses...
  2. Is there a way to move or reposition labels on kitchen cabinets such as "B3021" ? Sometimes they are in the wrong place and interfere with a nearby cabinet or a wall mounted cabinet.
  3. Perfect! Way easier than I was trying to make it. I'm also trying to do something similar to the end/size of a carport (just a roof supported on columns) but there is not a door or a formal opening. Any ideas? I've tried using soffits, but there may be a better way... I'm also trying to make a tapered apron in front of the garage door. Is there a way to angle the depth of a slab? Or do I need to make a geometric shape of some kind?See attached file. Or should I ask these questions each in a separate topic? Shed2.zip
  4. Maybe I don't know what to search for, but how do I make a garage door that has the top two corners clipped at a 45 deg angle so the trim molding looks good? The garage door normally is installed slightly behind the wall and the actual opening has 45 deg corners, the door behind is actually a rectangle.
  5. I want to show brick trim details when I look at the house with the orthographic full overview. I have some rectangular windows and an oval window. I would like to show brick trim on the sides and top of the windows for example standing the bricks on end along the tom of the window (soldiers), stacking a row flat on the sides and extending the depth of some bricks by a half inch or so. Can you point me to a tuturial or video that demonstrates this? I have searched the knowledge base and google and can't find out how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. I have the default terrain turned on for ortho view. Since the garage floor is about 1 foot lower, the terrain cuts off the bottom part of the garage door. How do I get the terrain to be lower in front of the garage door? I haven't put in the driveway yet because of this.
  7. I have a long wall that has a break in it because of a gable over a section of that wall. I want to place a patio door under the break. How do I place the door under the break so it spans both wall sections?
  8. Update - In my HD Pro, the export 3d stl is not available, it is grayed out under Export.
  9. David, That link seems to have expired. It brought me to a location with an error message. I will look into it further. Kat, Thanks for the idea. From what I can tell, reading about it, it only works with Chief Architect products, not with Home Designer. I didn't try it to see. Tom
  10. Is there a way I can send an orthographic view to someone so they can rotate the house and look at it from different angles? Like some kind of file that has a 3d viewer?
  11. I had some success. I was able to trace the driveway and some existing out buildings, and the outline of the lot. Thanks for the help. Tom
  12. Thanks. I'll try both ideas and see how it works.
  13. How would one bend the lintel into an arch shape? Yes, it would need to be proud of the rest of the wall, but only by about 2". I don't remember seeing a lintel in the program, but it makes sense there is one.
  14. Are you saying that once imported, we can't resize the image? Where do I import an image so it shows up in the terrain? I can externally resize it and orient north before importing if needed.
  15. I see how we can import a photo to use to trace a floor plan, but is there a way to import an aerial photo to use for a terrain (or to use as a template to create a terrain? My county website has a nice aerial photo, or possibly google earth could be used. Tom
  16. I would like to build a decorative stone arch above a garage door. This would have the stones placed vertical in a low arch over the double garage door with horizontal stones going up the right and left of the door and extending above the arch. I searched and did not see how to do this. Any links or hints/instructions would be appreciated.

    I'll give that a try.

    Roof goofyness

I think I tried that. I'll try again. How do you make a four gable roof? Think of a rectangular room with all four walls as full gable. Each outside wall is a gable. From the top view, the roof ridges look like a + . I have seen farm houses like this. I have tried this using 8 roof planes but cant get them all at the same height. The program gives an error box when I try to join roof planes together and click on the second plane. I'm trying to do this as a learning example. I get it almost right but ...

    Roof goofyness

I got the roofs done manually. Now I am having trouble with the "saddle" that is needed between the two roofs so rain can run off properly. I can make the triangular roof plane, but cant get it to make the proper pitch so it goes down to the eaves. I want the top of the "saddle" to be the same height as the single car garage roof ridge. I have watched several tutorials and videos, but none showed how to snap a roof plane point to another point at an unknown pitch. Any hints would be appreciated. Attached is my current test plan.RoofTest1.plan

More roof questions. I made a simple design tosee how to do two roofs that share one wall and it doesn't do what I expect. I attached the file. The left roof is 10/12 gable with the peak going lengthwise (up/down on the floor plan). The right side roof is at right angles to the other roof. The right side is two stories with the second story having walls that are 48" high. The problem seems to stem from the fact that a wall is shared for both roofs. On the right roof, I set the roof specs only on the second floor. On the left roof I only set the roof specs on the first floor. I expected to see two independent gable roofs, but the program shows them connected together. RoofTest1.plan

Is there a way I can lower the roof planes? What I have now looks good, but if I could push them straight down toward the floor about 6-10" it would be perfect. Your example had the planes lower.

    Roof goofyness

I watched the video two times and it seemed understandable. Now i am following your instruction in a new plan as you suggest. I'm having trouble getting the two roof planes to join. Most of the time I get a lengthy error message box that says something like this: Cannot move these roof edges without making adjacent edges cross one another making one of them zero length. Before joining them try adding a break to one of the edges or using the edit handles to move the edges closer together. Sometimes the two planes seem to connect in the middle but overlap slightly and don't act as one. any movement using the handles works only on one of the planes. The rest of the steps seem to work, but i don't get the set baseline box as you showed in the first picture set. I also don't see the triangle shaped dashed lines in the first picture left side. In the overview, it does look mostly correct though.

    Roof goofyness

That is impressive... I'd be happy if i could get the more simple things working. I want to make three variations and then evaluate which would be cheaper/easier to construct. I can see this project going over budget real easily... Any idea where that weird roof came from? I can delete it, but it comes back if i try to put the fake dormer back on, even if the size is different. And i can't get the roof/overhang to stay in the front. The front gable wall is set to 10" pitch, 12" overhang. The back gable wall is set to 10" pitch and 0" overhang. The side walls are both set for 10" pitch. I have the room set for ceiling height of 1.5" and as a closet. No ceiling checked. Is there a way to get the master bedroom bump out so the roof remains straight and doesn't extend out and up? I'll attach the file.Bonnie5y2.plan

    Roof goofyness

Yes, over the garage wall. remember there is a 42" overhang, so it will be set back 42". Now my attempt all of a sudden has a strange roof plane sprouting from it. Deleting the whole thing, and then redrawing the dormer room again and it still shows up. See the attached pictures.

No matter what I try, the 3/12 room overhang is cut off along the front of the dormer (your drawing is correct), also the roof needs to be lowered by about 6". I have the room height set to 1-1/2 inches.
