  1. My results so far. Need to stop on the roof until I can get the porch figured out (new post). P:S haven't attempted the dormer yet, Jo_Ann you make it look TOO easy!
  2. I have attempted to model the porch on this as-built as it is, that is, the porch projects from the front of the house about 18", has no rails only decorative columns. The roof over-hang is wide enough that it covers the edge of the porch without a projection thus creating a smooth straight across roof line. If I define it as a porch and draw it with rail tools it causes the roof to project. I modeled the roof, and have it pretty close to reality. I turned off rebuild in the roof, but it continues to change each time (building a crazy over-hang over the porch edge. If I attempt it with invisible walls nothing shows up, the porch can't be selected to set it's DBX etc. Suggestions? I did draw the foundation in as it appears in reality, and am trying to go back and use invisible walls to define the room setting the front wall back the 18" so that it is under the roof line, but nothing works so far.
  3. Ok, so the short answer is "USER ERROR". The problem is, ALL the line weights on this plan were fine until I closed it and re-opened it this morning to work on it a little bit. I thought at first it was just a different monitor until I opened a wall dbx and it went weird on me. I am not the PRO that Pro 10 is, however I take an oath that I "DIDN'T" reset, go to default or change anything. I can't figure out how to get it back so it looks reasonable in plan view?
  4. Well, not making much progress on the roof I am trying to model. Simple hip with the turn out over the walls, but no luck! Here is what I have so far, so; what do I need to do now?
  5. Haven't found a good key word to use to find a thread or help on this one. Helping a friend with "as-built" on his home in prep for an extensive remodel. Don't have to do anything with the roof (as of yet) but did want to model it as correctly as possible in elevation so we have options to dress up the outside. The roof is simple hip, but everywhere the roof meets an exterior wall it turns slightly up at the over-hang. Not sure how to model it in Pro 10, but still searching the helps but haven't found anything. Looks like, after reviewing the user manual, that Gull wing Roof might be the route to go, if the HIP function can be applied to all four exterior walls. As soon as I get the floor plan exterior walls and porch done I just may stop and experiment with that.
  6. Sam, in PRO there are some "bonus" catalogues that might offer some things....all-be-it depending on your Pro version (10 to 15 etc) may not be what you need. You can also find some things at tremble's 3D warehouse: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/search.html?backendClass=entity&q=playground+equipment You might note will need to download a free Sketch up program so you can open / save 3D items to a file you set up, that will also work with your particular version of Pro. You may also (once you've learned more about the soft ware and it's functionality/capabilities) be able to use shapes, other items to "create" some things. AS Mr. DJP would say......read the user manual, search the help features, practice, practice and practice some more! Hopefully this will help a little.
  7. Ross, not sure how the CAD tools work in Suite but I have a couple of suggestions. First, you can pull a cross section view of the wall you want to detail, add the information, draw in details as needed w/CAD lines add text etc (I think you can w/Suite). Secondly, what I do with pro-is go to the web and search for typical details (PDF) keyword residential walls and footing details (see the link I provided). I do a copy / paste into my plan layout sheet etc, (again not sure how it would work with suite) but I use CAD tools and trace over the PDF's and add notes etc with text tool. Once I have the detail complete I delete the PDF file and have nice details left. Maybe this will work for you? https://www.google.com/search?q=typical+wall+and+footing+details+for+residential+framing just an example. The rest depends on your personal construction knowledge it won't automatically detail it for you.
  8. Ok, I kept reopening the SKP 8 file, and finally got it to save and open as SKP 7! Persistence pays off if you can overcome the frustration!!!! Thanks Mick for your help!
  9. So kbird, I opened Sketch up 2014, >open went to my skp folder to your zipped file and attempted to open it and the attached is the message I keep getting:
  10. So, I finally was able to find a skp program I could download but it is 2014......and every attempt I have made to save the SKP 8 file as 7 version didn't work. In fact, as soon as I opened it in the 2014 SKP program, it converted to the 2014 version and I can't change it back =(
  11. I found a free skp 7, but it wants me to download all this other stuff I don't need/want so when I don't accept it, it closes and I don't see any way to continue without accepting all the add-ons. I keep checking "skip" but that doesn't do anything but take me back to the same screen over and over.
  12. Mick, have you a URL I can hit? Everything I am trying to down-load my virus protection is warning the down-load contains viruses/spyware.
  13. I am task w/ doing a concept plan for a developer of Assisted Living and I am in need of a model of the typical "PTAC" thru wall HVAC unit used in motels and hospital nursing homes typical. The Trimble 3d warehouse has one but it is SKP 8 series and Pro 10 can't open it. I did an HVAC search in my library under HVAC but nothing more than window AC or the typical generic stuff comes up. Ideas appreciated. PS: I am not good at modeling at sketch up so I have not attempted to do my own because of time.
  14. I suppose I have it done correctly, but when I try to delete the "un-necessary" rows (like labor + cost etc) nothing works. Dragging and reducing the width doesn't work for me at least. Also, when I go to edit (where it looks like you can delete those unwanted cells) its all jumble up. Looks like you just have to coordinate the edit dbx with the actual schedule layout. Ok.
  15. VERY GOOD! I will now have a "new" tool to make schedules with!
  16. Mick, I had that happen too, so the next time, I "previewed" my response, deleted the unwanted characters, then when posted it looked ok.
  17. To my knowledge, to create any kind of "schedule" you will need to use the cad tools and draw the lines in as needed. Then using the text tool to add text- experiment and practice will make it work. There are no ready made templates (that I am aware of) in home designer series of soft-ware. Once you have a schedule made, you can then save it in a blank plan and use IT as a template for other plans/schedules. That's what I have done.
  18. I selected the wall, entered the dimension I wanted.
  19. Keith, I simply created a folder on my desk top "skp files", down load to that, then when I need to use something from there with the 2D plan open, I open the skp folder, left click on what I want (ex g urinal) hold the key down drag it on to the plan, then it works like a fixture and you can place it as needed. Open its dbx resize it from there or even reverse the image and be sure to set its floor to bottom height.
  20. Keith, give this a try. I use it on all my public RR's. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=ee9413ad4188449e2805f095cfc77729 Not sure why you can't select the dims you want. When I have similar issues, and zoom / select doesn't work, I zoom in as close as possible, then select the manual dim tool then put the cursor on the line close to the arrow and select and usually it will open with no problem?!?
  21. Transform/replicate worked just fine, once I experimented a little with the rotate direction/angle.
  22. Rich, the first thing I did was hold down the Ctrl key! It still won't move in small degrees. I even changed the rotate angle degree to 1 but it doesn't matter. If I enlarge the window so I can move the rotate handle slower it won't move at all until I reach a certain point then it is too far.
  23. David, I have pro 10. I watched your You Tube and performed every operation as you stated. As I previously posted in the Old Home Talk, as Long as I don't attempt the "manual" cupola on the plan I want to add it to, I am ok; I added a manual cupola on a completely NEW blank plan with just the exterior walls, and IT works just fine. When I attempt it on my already finished plan is when everything goes haywire. I continue to search for the cause and a fix. Thanks for the You tube, though!
