  1. Thanks, this definitely helped somewhat. The numbers for X and Y don't correspond exactly to real life but I can at least get a better visualization than before. Unfortunately the hex tile texture that is included in the bonus tile catalog uses tiles of different colors/shades so even when I color it the color I want some of the tiles show up differently than others. Is this expected behavior or is there something additional I can do to get all the tiles the exact same color?
  2. I am trying to figure out how to create a hex pattern tile floor using a specific color and tile size. Some manufacturers might have created a mosaic hex or similar but I need a way to specific the exact size and color of the tile I am thinking of buying so I can see what it will look like in our bathroom. Do I need to be doing anything with the pattern files? I tried using a custom pattern but there's nothing in there related to hex layouts. It seems all textures are square files.
  3. Did you ever solve the Baluster issue?  Or are you still using the work around.  Where is the picture that you show with the "correct solution from?  Was that also created in Pro?  If so is it something we can download to look how it was generated?

      Sorry I didn't see this message from you until just now.  I never did solve the issue.  The picture I showed was from mine, from the pro version.  I honestly don't remember exactly how I rendered it but believe I detailed that in my original post.  Sorry, it's been a while since I messed with this.

  4. Thanks David for the video. I didn't think to put two side by side but each at a different angle. However, as you noted, it's not quite a true herringbone. What gets me is that in pattern view if you change from "brick" to "herringbone" (in general->Material type) and then rotate, it shows it exactly as I am desiring. I just can't seem to figure out how to get it to render properly in 3D view. I don't understand why they give you the ability to change the pattern to herringbone if they don't give you a way to render it accordingly in 3D view. The herringbone pattern is becoming a very popular tile design and so I am a bit surprised that they don't have a way to have it render properly in 3D view. Or maybe they do and I haven't figured it out yet?
  5. I am trying to create a angled herringbone backsplash and so far it's not been working. I've copied various library objects, including a single tile object and a patterned object from daltile as well as the built-in subway tile object. I also tried using silestone lyra countertop material. I copy the object, then edit the copy and change it to herringbone and rotate it 45 degrees. In the library chooser it then shows on the left side the correct looking pattern, however when rendered in 3D view it just looks normal. It is never put into a herringbone pattern, let alone the 45 degree herringbone that I am going for. With the silestone lyra, it never adds in grout/mortar lines, so it more of less looks like a giant countertop. If you look closely you can see the software trying to herringbone it sort of, but it never adds in the grout lines. Some of this may be some misunderstanding on my part regarding how the software treats tile vs textures, I am not sure. Any advice would be much appreciated!
  6. stairs3.png (attached) is what it looks like after I do my workaround. Technically it's not ideal - I would prefer the balusters to be on the actual sloped molding/cap portion (as in "stairs4.png") rather than sitting on top of the actual tread, but I'm not going to get that picky right now unless you guys know how to accomplish that. Doing it that way might even solve the disappearing baluster issue I'm having. And I need to backtrack on a previous statement. It appears every time the plan is closed and re-opened, it gets rid of the balusters again. So, I have to drag the triangle wall away, open and close the stairs properties, and drag the triangle wall back in place for them to re-appear.
  7. Thanks guys, I was able to figure this out. I selected the triangular wall object in plan view and dragged it 1 foot to the right of the staircase. Then, I went back into the properties of the stairs object and I guess it re-calculates all of the settings you have saved and the preview image showed the balusters. Once I clicked OK (didn't change anything in the stairs properties) they rendered properly in 3D view. Then, I dragged the triangular wall back to be flush against the side of the stairs and the balusters remained in place in 3D view. Unfortunately, it looks like once I've dragged that triangular wall back in place, if I open up the stairs properties again, it has re-hidden the balusters, so if I click OK in that DBX (even without changing anything, or if I do in fact want to change stair settings) I have to go through the whole process over again of dragging the triangle wall away from the stairs, modifying and saving the stairs, dragging the wall back in place. An additional negative: it even includes changing the paint colors via the eydropper and paint roller tool, in 3D view, as a "change" to the properties of the stair object, and makes you go through that whole process to get the balusters to reappear. Certainly seems like a bug to me!

I am trying to have solid wall (sheetrock) covering the sides of the actual stairs below, as shown in these images, and then have a standard height railing with balusters in the remaining open space. I can't seem to get it to work. It keeps treating that side of the stairwell as a regular wall, and therefore thinks only a railing should be placed there, without the balusters. My triangular wall section that I used was just an individual interior-4 wall that I stretched/resized to make a custom polygon wall. It only extends up to the top of each stair. Any ideas for how to get the balusters to display?
  9. Thank you, I've found that option and turned it on. However, it doesn't seem to make a difference. In floor plan view they still look the same as the default lines.
  10. I am sure this is a simple question...how do I get CAD line weights to display in floor plan view? No matter what number I enter into the specifications dialog box for the line, it just displays the same thin line. I looked in the help section but they either didn't explain it well or I didn't read it properly. Surely I can't be the only person who wants to achieve this with a CAD line?
  11. Sorry, you have to navigate a bit. But the main page is http://www.fypon.com/ecatalog/ Then as an example, Polyurethane->Window and Door trim->Crosshead and then pick any of the styles and you can download separate DWG files for each view.
  12. I don't know much about Sketchup or CAD and maybe this should be done in one of those programs... But I am on the Fypon website looking at window trim, specifically at the crossheads. They provide separate 2D elevation and profile DWG files that are downloadable and I can open them in a CAD program. I am wondering if there is any simple way to combine these two into a 3D object that I'd then be able to import into HD and use? The options for window and door molding in HD are really pretty limited unfortunately.
  13. Thanks to both of you. Yes, those picture frames look like what I have in mind, though I wasn't able to find those. What is exact title of those objects? David, thanks for the video. What I am referring to is also often called "box molding", I have even seen some people call it wainscoting but I am not sure that is accurate. It's often found in hallways, stairways and dining rooms
  14. Is there a way to add shadow box molding to a kitchen island? I know I can do the pony wall feature to do a beadboard wainscoting type of thing, but I am more looking for the actual boxed out trim. I can add a fake soffit and add horizontal moldings but don't know about the vertical parts. And in any case I'd want the corners mitered. I couldn't find any kind of library object. Actually, for that matter, how would I go about doing this kind of box molding for, say, a stairway or a hallway?
  15. I am using HD to do my electrical permit drawings. I've got everything finished but need to add in a key/legend to show the authorities what each symbol means. I've managed to get all the symbols lined up, then created a mutlitple-line text field with the corresponding text and lined it all up so it makes sense. It shows up just fine but I was only able to do it within the floorplan/walls. As soon as I select everything and try to drag it outside the walls, into the top corner of the page (where a key/legend would normally be), it starts re-arranging things. Worse, most of the symbols don't seem to move past the most exterior wall plane. Kind of hard to explain. What's the best way to go about achieving a key/legend? I can take a screenshot of the key/legend as it is laid out correctly in plan view, but I couldn't find a way to paste/insert an image into plan view. The only related option just inserts a symbol into plan view and I guess inserts the actual image data into 3d view?
