How do I fix my wall color showing up as black instead of actual correct color?

Hi,

I have tried to paint the wall colors. The brown wall color on the left is supposed to be what's showing on the wall color on the right, not black. I have confirmed in the open object the color/material is entered correctly. So I thought it might be a weird shadow thing. You can see windows right there on one wall and I've added a bunch of lights but it still shows as black. Anyone know how to fix this so that it shows the correct brown wall color instead of the black?
