  1. My list of reasons to upgrade to CA Premier is long and growing longer. I've pored over the comparison chart listing features of CA vs HD, but I am not seeing this particular feature that I would like: In CA can you add dimensions to layout views after sending a layout view from the 3D plan to the 2D layout? I'd like to be able to send the view to layout, then add dimensions, notes, etc, rather than having to clutter the elevation view with all the annotations. Also a given elevation view might want to show different notes and dimensions on different sheets. I guess I can do that by creating multiple cameras to have multiple views in the plan, so each view connects to a specific layout. I guess I'm used to mechanical CAD, such as Solidworks, where a single 3D model can be associated with multiple 2D drawing files. I do realize that CA Premier allows multiple sheets per drawing. That alone should be a big help... Peter
  2. I realize this is an old post, but just now I started to generate my first walkthrough and it would throw an error as soon as it started to render the first frame. Neither of the two codecs installed in my system would work. Then I installed the XVID that Kat recommended above, closed and re-opened HD, selected XVID in Preferences/Render, and voila! Success! Generating a polyline to follow with adjustable key frames is way cool. I can slow down and rotate the camera as I enter a room to dwell on the view, accentuate a closet, etc. I'm having so much fun designing in the virtual world of my computer, I may never get around to actually building this house!! Thank you Kat! Peter
  3. Thanks Eric! You the man! I wondered what "Component Options" meant-- for some reason the term "components" never implied separate sashes to me; I assumed it had something to do with wooden or metal small parts. Should have just tried it! No excuse for failure to explore 100% of the available options!! That creates exactly what I need! Peter
  4. I guess I could eliminate the exterior casing as well, and "build" the full surrounding exterior casing I want using rectangular blocks (box shapes); but wow, that would be a whole lot of work!
  5. When I try to mull two windows vertically, it won't do it. I have the Vertical Stacking Levels set to zero for the bottom one and to 1 for the upper one. See attached image. If I place them side by side with equal sill heights, then dragging them together WILL mull them. See two images of that. One odd thing I found was that the Interior Casing width has to be set roughly equal to or larger than the minimum window spacing (1" by default). Otherwise no mulling at all. This is regardless of the presence of the exterior casing. See image where the right window interior casing has been set to 1/4" and they won't mull. In my case I wanted to have ONLY exterior casings, but it looks like it won't let me mull that way. BTW, in these images I've set the exterior casing materials to odd colors to clarify which is which. Note that when they join (mull), the left window's casing color "takes over" the smaller window. For the over-under mulling I wanted to have an awning on the bottom and fixed on the top. Any way to do that in Pro? Peter

    Grid Rotation

I want to design my house so that there are three sections at different angles. For example, a main central section aligned with the grid, then two wings to the left and right, each of which is oriented at an angle (30-45 degrees) relative to the central section. I'm wondering if there is some way to rotate the snap grid, temporarily, while working on each wing. I found how to rotate the plan view, so that I can orient the plan while working on a wing, to make that wing orthogonal to the program window. But I can't find any way to rotate the snap grid or reference grid. Plus, even while the plan view is rotated, dragging to select multiple objects creates a selection rectangle that is always aligned with the grid, not with the window or cursors. I have learned from other postings that one should design the house in alignment with the snap grid, and then rotate the terrain as necessary to position the orientation of the house relative to the land. But in this case different parts of the house will be oriented differently...
