  1. I upgraded to HDP 2025 last December, unaware of the upcoming change to a subscription model. I'll attribute this to serendipity. I'll run 2025 until the wheels fall off. I can't justify the $500/yr for the new "Home Designer" ("Pro" has been eliminated from the name). Considering how the industry has been shifting towards the subscription model, I can understand CA's move; however, I believe they priced "Home Designer" at 200% of market value. I suspect the next change will be to rebadge "Home Designer" to "Chief Architect Lite," as that is essentially what it is. It would streamline and focus the brand image. I don't object to that, but I do object to the price and the SaaS (Software as a Service) model, which only works if you keep paying. There isn't a comparable alternative, so some may be forced to pay. I'm curious whether the math will work out for CA in the end. I suspect 20% of users will become subscribers. With a 500% increase in average revenue per user, it just may work for CA. If not, we may see a Black Friday sale price that becomes the new permanent (lower) subscription price.
