How do I create a slab porch with porch columns and a roof which extends over the porch? I can create the railings but not the slab and columns.

I am unable to select the desired roof style. The system seems to be stuck on a Hip style and I have tried to select the Full Gamble. The style highlights when I click on it but will not stay selected. Is this a software installation problem or a glitch?
