Thank you... turns out you have to create two stairs with different widths then move them together. If they start out the same width then they have to stay the same width, but if different to start with then I can control the widths of each segment independently.

I am trying to use one of the new features in HD2021 Architectural to make the lower three treads of a stairway slightly wider than the rest of the stairs, so railing will dead end into a wall. I cannot figure out how to do it nor find and instructions online. I tried splitting the stairs into two sections but changing the width of one changes the other to match. Can anyone help? thx
