  1. So, I see what you're saying..just experiment!
  2. Can someone tell me how to turn off the shadows in HD ARCH 17? I guess they are automatically turned on, which is okay, but it slows down the viewing. I couldn't find it in the defaults or preferences. Thanks! HD ARCH 17.
  3. I, too wish there was a better rendering for the Home Designer Suites. Chief Architect makes HD look like a toy! But, there are a few things you can do to make it look a bit better. You can download Paint.net and work with it to get a better look. Look at my designs in the gallery, there were all completed working with Paint.Net. And furthermore, I personally find that the more I update the software the worse rendering I get. Now, that is my own personal opinion. And if I could afford Chief, I would get it, but for me this is just a hobby.
  4. Just wanted to add my 2 cents! Carry on!

    Roof in 3D

Hello all! I know not roofs again! Just got a new computer!!! Yay!! But this issue was happening on the old one too. Does anyone know why the roof looks like this in 3d? And how to fix it? It could not be the computer, I think it's something that CA may have to fix, a bug or something? HD ARCH 16
  7. Will there be any connection problems with windows 10? HD Arch16
  8. Solver, the whole point was to practice on how to get a portico. That is the house that I practiced on, I don't really care about that particular house. It really was something quick to upload. My very first post (picture) showed the problem that I was having in trying to achieve that.
  9. Oh, one more thing. After following your house exactly that is what came out. Drawing them side by side changed your roof. The only thing I did was paint it a different color. That's what I thought you were talking about. I went back and tried yours again, but I could not get it with your roof pitches. I don't understand why. So when I posted the picture of both houses that is how the program changed your roof. The only way I got my roof was to change the long side of the railing's pitch to 3:12. You kept yours at 8:12, and 8:12 doesn't work on my program.
  10. Okay, you guys. You know the very first picture that I posted, the blue house? That is not what I wanted. I was trying to get the other picture that I posted beside it. However, I did want it on a one story home. If Jo Ann had of told me that she put the long part of the railing (roof) in 3:12, that would have been it. But I'm glad that we took the route that we did because I learned a lot about roofs. I'll post the before and after pics. I painted the edge of the roof so you all can see the difference. Wow! This posting is HOT! Way to go you guys! What it was. What I wanted. Oh, and Kbird, I did play around with your house.
  11. Thanks Kbird, Boy have I learned a lot! Since, I'm used to doing interiors, roofs never seemed to phase me . I was just looking at YouTube's Chief's "creating a portico" and it does show how to use the invisible walls. Although I'm limited as what I can do with my HD since I don't have CA, it did provide some insight. Here's what I wasn't quite understanding when you all said to keep the build roof unchecked, I thought that when I built the roof that I was supposed to check it!! Duh!Or it wouldn't build. Duh! Duh!! You can actually continue to build the roof without checking the "build roof. I was able to download your second plan but not the first. So, after all this study from you and JoAnn, I finally have it! Whew! Thank you both! I'll post both our plans together, there is some slight difference in the roofs. (Kbird's on the left, mine on the right)
  12. Thank you Jo Ann, for working tirelessly on this. I can open it fine. Hopefully it can help others too. I will study it. Oh! And you too, Kbird!
  13. Thanks Solver but, no. I want the plan that JoAnn and Kbird posted. It's called a portico. Be warned, it appears that it's not easy to do on a one (1) story plan. Instructions on the website are not there on how to do this on a one story.
  14. Ok, maybe this will work? roof tester fl plan.plan
  15. Ok, I'll try. roof tester fl plan - Shortcut.zip
  16. Ok, Ms Ninja, here you are! This is one that I had been working on, I tried to darken the roof so that you can distinguish it. It's the extension in this photo that I'm having the problem with, I get how to use the break tool and all that. Sorry, Kbird..I don't know what you mean by posting my plan, forgive my ignorance do you mean my floor plan? HD Arch16
  17. I've been trying to do that for 3 days please share how you did it.
  18. You guys and gals are the best! Thanks again! Oh and Jo Ann, there is that "hole" or "opening" I was talking about on the gable!! Thanks for teaching me how to do that!!
  19. Here's the final draft. Thanks, all.
  20. Thank you, KBird. I did the exact same thing on the first picture that I posted. I finally got it, but it seems that this roof works better on a two (2) story home. Thanks for your simple and clear instructions.
  21. Yes, I want that extension but what you just described is not working for me.
  22. So it's not open? Well could someone tell me how the roof was created open or not? Everyone has the right picture.
