  1. Is it possible to create a design with some of the house frame exposed in the walls and ceilings. I'd like to create a two storey oak framed house but haven't come across any samples or examples yet of how to do this. Anyone out there with a suggestion on how to accomplish this? Many thanks Len HD Suite 2015 just an example below
  2. Thanks for the links. These are mostly conventional designs (not many really look like these over here in the UK) seen in the States. Couldn't find anything with oak framed structures and exposed beams...unless I missed something. Perhaps I should create a new topic specifically around creating a design with exposed beams and oak frame. Many thanks Len
  3. Having just download a couple of the editable samples from the website, I would like to know if anyone has come across any oak frame houses as samples/templates. I'm assuming that with HD Suite 2015 I can only take plans that would be in that format. Are there other sources of plans that can be imported and edited? Many Thanks Len
  4. Thanks I've managed (in some fashion) to copy each floor and align them. I'm baffled by what happens when I add a foundation slab to the first floor as it creates some weird affects on the attic to my original structures. I've got a terrain/plot saved in another file and will copy/align once all my structures are competed as the property is basically flat. cheers Len
  5. I'm trying to copy and paste a two floor building onto the same plot and elevation in HD Suite 2015. I've perused the manual and the various forums and KB but can't find a way of doing this. any guidance would be much appreciated.
  6. I have looked through the manual (which I downloaded at the first point of purchasing the CA Suite 2015 application) and have looked through these pages. I'm still not certain how to copy an entire building (all floors) in one go to another plan. I've looked at available forum topics and suggestions, but I'm obviously misunderstanding how to do this. I've tried doing a copy and paste/hold position to create the building a one floor at a time. But moving all the floors as a group to where I need the building on the plan is a mystery. I tried doing the edit area, but that only works on one floor at a time. I can't seem to select all floors simultaneously to copy and past in another plan. All I'm doing is creating an extension to an existing building. any guidance will be appreciated. Len
  7. Is it possible in CA Suite to view all floor plans for a building in one view as layers? This makes it possible to see how various objects in each floor would be view from the top all the way to the foundation. Thanks Len
  8. Thanks...I'll give them a try.
  9. I'm trying to recreate a cathedral ceiling over a second floor of an old building. The building is 5m x 5m internally (okay...slightly more that 16ft x 16ft for those imperialists) on both the ground and on the floor above. I want to create a hipped steep roof on the upper floor with a cathedral ceiling that will have exposed beams. The walls are approximately 2.2m off the floor of the upper storey and that is where the roof begins (the roof is 5.5m from the floor to the apex - internally). The ground floor of this 19th century French farm cottage has walls that are 2.5m high. So the upper walls aren't the same height as the ground floor walls. Any thoughts? Ta Len
  10. Blimey! All I wanted was to know how to copy a pair of buildings to add to a new blank plan. Anyway, I figured it out after trial and error as there isn't anything (as far as I can determine) in the 900 page A4 manual regarding copying multiple objects and pasting them in another plan. I'm still struggling with the creation of a two story square structure with a hipped roof that is steep and open (lofted) with beams on the inside. More trial and error and more searching the forum. Knowledge by experiment and trial and error is okay..as long as time is not of the essence. Otherwise, perhaps we could have a mechanism to submit requests for additional instructions/examples/information to be included in the manual (the one for Designer 2015 is only 526 pages)? There are a number of good ideas and techniques from members of this forum that could be incorporated in the non "pro" version of the manual.. Ta Len
  11. Hi everyone Please keep in mind that some of us are not "forum gurus" and haven't got all the basics of usage for different forums. I just wanted some information as I find my version, Chief Architect Suite 2015 useful but limited in explaining everything. E.g., How to add buildings to a current plan is not clear. Nor is it clear to a novice how to take a drawing on one saved plan and copy it to another saved plan. And...apparently my version won't allow me to save my created building as a "group" so that I can rotate it on the plot...unless I'm missing this info in the user manual. Everything that I've been given so far in the forum has been very useful and not a waste...in my opinion. So, thanks.
  12. I've just finished my first building and want to add a smaller one on the same plot. No problem creating the external walls of the 1st (Ground) floor, but when I try to add a second floor the original building gets a new floor instead. Is it possible to create two separate buildings on the same plot? Or, can one building created in one plan be copied and pasted on another plan? Thanks in advance. Len

    Creating a barn

Thanks for everyone's help...got the barn pretty much completed with a mezzanine and gable roof. I now want an "auvant" or porch overhang above the double garage doors. Is it possible to create this separately and attach it to the front of the barn? cheers Len

    Creating a barn

Thanks for the guidance. I'm still struggling with a few things. I can't seem to get the gambrel roof to work on the barn I've created as it seems to be on the wrong sides. I also want to have a "mezzanine" or half floor for a storage area with stairs...can't figure that one out. And...I can't get the "angle snap" to reset to anything else. A true voyage of discovery.

    Creating a barn

Has anyone created a barn with space for a garage/cars as well as a workshop and an office using the HD Suite 2015? Any tips or guidance before I start my project? Thanks Len
  16. I can't really tell what other formats might work but it appears that most are simply objects...so the details and measurements are just "pictures". What might be more helpful is a space planner for a stand alone garage or barn. Any thoughts on where I might find one within HD? Thanks for you help. Len
  17. @LenB10p The version of HD is Home Designer Suite 2015. What I'm trying to do is import a .dxf file that has the design of a derelict French barn that I want to renovate using HD. It would save me having to recreate the walls and footprint of the building. However, it seems that HD suite 2015 will only export .dxf files, but not import them. Simply put: will my version of HD allow me to import files with a .dxf extension, and if so, will these files actually all the HD software to recognise the plan measurements, etc. Thank for your help and I hope this makes sense. Len
  18. I'm new to HD and have used ARCON in the past. I want to import my .dxf flies into HD as a starting point so that I don't have to start from scratch before making a new extension to the existing structure. The metafile import gives the picture of the various views that I've exported from Arcon, but I don't think I can get specific details on measurements (all in metric). Any suggestions would be appreciated. LenB10p
