  1. Hello- I have a basic question that I can't find an answer to. I am using HD Pro 2018 and 2019. I am trying to figure out how to send the roof plan and framing plan to layouts. Do I need to manually change all the layers so that only my roof (or framing) layers are showing, and turn off everything else? Or is there an easier way? When I go to my Layers dialog box I only have the option of changing whatever layer is current (mine says "Layout Set 6"). Is there some way to change what Layer Set is current? I'm sorry if this is an obvious answer, I just can't seem to find it! Thank you, Karen
  2. Hello, I need to upgrade my HD Pro to 2019 but am working on a project in the previous version. Can I still use both of the versions after I upgrade? Will the new 2019 open the 2018 .plan and .layout files? Also, I receive files to work on in CA Premier X9 version and I will still need to be able to open them... I am relatively new to Home Designer and Chief Architect, am previously an Auto CAD drafter...I am often frustrated by the program's inability to open drawings from older versions. Thank you.
  3. David- I use a Mac OS Sierra w/ 2.5 GHz Intel core i5. For some reason it wouldn't open HD Pro until I uninstalled HD Suite; now HD Pro is running fine again with no Suite installed..
  4. Hello- I use HD Pro 2018 and CA X8. It's frustrating that I can't use any of those to open a 2019 Suite .plan file. I just tried to load a friend's copy of Suite 2019 so I could help him finish up a house plan he'd started. I didn't get as far as getting him to deactivate so I could activate, but while I was waiting, I tried to open my Pro 2018 and it wouldn't open. I had to uninstall Suite. Is there any way to run both of them on my computer? Evidently my computer didn't like having both of them... Thanks.

    Gull Wing Roof

Thanks, Jo Ann- Got it to work just like I wanted!

    Gull Wing Roof

It is a new plan, so I can look into other options... I didn't understand that the multiple pitch roof only worked with auto roofs. Now I understand why it wasn't doing what I wanted it to! Thank you. Karen

    Gull Wing Roof

Thank you, David. Yes, it does help. But the reason I want the gull wing roof is to visually bring the tall roofline down a couple of feet, and to add a bit of interest by having another slope on the end. Could you tell me why it doesn't work when I try to specify the lower and upper roof pitches? Thanks. Karen

    Gull Wing Roof

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to re-create a roof situation where only part of the roof plane is a gull wing roof, and only on one side of the gable. It is to cover the part of the upstairs bedroom that sticks out from the main exterior wall. I want a 5/10 pitch until 3'6" in from the baseline, and then 10/12 pitch but can't get it to show up when I try. The last screen shot (elevation) shows the condition I'm trying to achieve. I had previously drawn it as two roof planes. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate them. Thanks. Marttinen_2018_change_roof.plan
  10. Hello, Does anyone know how to draw a floor truss that is only top-chord bearing, so that the rest of the truss hangs into the basement? We are trying to show a "zero-entry" condition on the main floor. A builder I talked to said that is how it would be built, over 3 sill plates, over the top of the poured basement wall. I can't find any information on drawing it... Thanks.
  11. Thank you so much, David. I've made so many material and wall type changes over the course of the design, and evidently I didn't make the changes in the correct places! This helps me immensely. The bump out I removed from the kitchen (see screenshot of plan I sent originally) is no longer shown, it's just those wing walls I need to remove... That is what my question is about the bump-out, not the rear one. As a side note, here in MN it is standard building practice to use 2x6 exterior walls in all residential construction, has been as far as I know since the 80's. Thanks again! Karen
  12. Hello- I ran into trouble when I went to remove a hand-drawn bump-out that I want to replace with a HD-generated bay window. I already had the issue that in several places on my house I had two different wall types trying to show up in the same place (in camera view). Now I also have it in the front of the main floor where my bump-out was. Also, in plan view I see the wing walls showing up, even thought I've tried to delete them... I wonder if my problem has something to do with setting my roof truss to be raised 7" to create an energy heel truss, which is required here in MN. It seems to create little 7" tall attic walls on top of all my walls. If anyone has any ideas about how to fix this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks. Marttinen l.plan
  13. David- Thank you so much for your help! Karen
  14. Hello - I am missing my fascia on only one section of roof. Does somebody know a simple way to get it to show up? I haven't been able to find any reason it doesn't show. Thank you!! Karen Building Addition.plan
  15. Thanks for your help! I'll look into it. Karen
  16. I don't see the option on Pro... I'm leaning towards taking the plunge and purchasing Chief.
  17. Hello all- I am a new Home Designer user. I use Home Designer Pro 2018. I am trying to draw a basement wall that steps down to a walkout at one side. I mostly got it figured out. Then I changed my wall type to have 2" exterior insulation (required in this part of MN). I wanted the 8" block wall to sit off center 2" in from the center of the footing to accommodate the insulation. Since making that change, I now have a jog in the footing where I change from full height basement wall to where the pony wall step down starts (this is in the sitting room on the basement level in my plan). This jog shouldn't be there, but I can't get rid of it! I also can't get the whole footing to show up off center like I'd like on these two block walls. I don't think this is a big deal, since I show in my detail that it is off-center, but I'd like to know how to do it correctly, as most of my projects will probably require this detail. Is anyone able to help me? I'd appreciate any help! Thanks so much! Karen Bunn_Remodel_2018.plan
  18. Thanks. I finally realized the problem was actually that my exterior walls were called out as interior walls...it all looks fine now! Thank you for your willingness to help us get started! Karen
  19. Hello! I am new to Home Designer. I use Pro 2018. I must've accidentally deleted my floor structure in the existing part of the remodel/addition I am drawing. Can anyone out there tell me how I can get it back? I was working with the stairway quite a bit and wonder what I did? Thanks! Karen Blomquist Kitchen Remodel 2018 A.plan
  20. Solver- I got it to work! Thanks for your patience! I am so grateful for this forum; it's been a huge help to me as I am getting started after many years out of the business. Karen
  21. But on a brighter note, the video and steps you showed me DID work to create a hip and a gable option! I appreciate it so much! I'm attaching a screen shot of the gable. Karen
  22. Solver- Thank you for your help! I am still stuck on the pitch..No matter what, I can't get the roof on the original house to draw at a 4:12, which is what it is built at and staying at. The addition should have a 6:12. Every time I try, I get the original house drawn at 6:12... Is there something obvious I am missing? If I manually change it to a 4:12, then my rooflines don't meet any more. Thanks! Karen
  23. Hello- I am new to Home Designer and Home Talk. I recently started using Home Designer Pro 2018 on a Mac Desktop Computer. I am trying to put an addition on a very simple, rectangular ranch style house. The roof pitch of the existing roof is 4/12 and my customer wants a 6/12 gable roof on the addition. I want to show them an option with a small hip on the backside of the new roof peak, and an option with a small gable on the backside. I have looked through HomeTalk content and online videos but haven't figured out how to do this! Can anybody help me? I enjoy reading your posts. They have helped me get past most of my hurdles so far... Thanks! Karen Blomquist Kitchen Remodel 2018.plan
