  1. Hello- I have a basic question that I can't find an answer to. I am using HD Pro 2018 and 2019. I am trying to figure out how to send the roof plan and framing plan to layouts. Do I need to manually change all the layers so that only my roof (or framing) layers are showing, and turn off everything else? Or is there an easier way? When I go to my Layers dialog box I only have the option of changing whatever layer is current (mine says "Layout Set 6"). Is there some way to change what Layer Set is current? I'm sorry if this is an obvious answer, I just can't seem to find it! Thank you, Karen
  2. Hello, I need to upgrade my HD Pro to 2019 but am working on a project in the previous version. Can I still use both of the versions after I upgrade? Will the new 2019 open the 2018 .plan and .layout files? Also, I receive files to work on in CA Premier X9 version and I will still need to be able to open them... I am relatively new to Home Designer and Chief Architect, am previously an Auto CAD drafter...I am often frustrated by the program's inability to open drawings from older versions. Thank you.
  3. David- I use a Mac OS Sierra w/ 2.5 GHz Intel core i5. For some reason it wouldn't open HD Pro until I uninstalled HD Suite; now HD Pro is running fine again with no Suite installed..
  4. Hello- I use HD Pro 2018 and CA X8. It's frustrating that I can't use any of those to open a 2019 Suite .plan file. I just tried to load a friend's copy of Suite 2019 so I could help him finish up a house plan he'd started. I didn't get as far as getting him to deactivate so I could activate, but while I was waiting, I tried to open my Pro 2018 and it wouldn't open. I had to uninstall Suite. Is there any way to run both of them on my computer? Evidently my computer didn't like having both of them... Thanks.

    Gull Wing Roof

Thanks, Jo Ann- Got it to work just like I wanted!

    Gull Wing Roof

It is a new plan, so I can look into other options... I didn't understand that the multiple pitch roof only worked with auto roofs. Now I understand why it wasn't doing what I wanted it to! Thank you. Karen

    Gull Wing Roof

Thank you, David. Yes, it does help. But the reason I want the gull wing roof is to visually bring the tall roofline down a couple of feet, and to add a bit of interest by having another slope on the end. Could you tell me why it doesn't work when I try to specify the lower and upper roof pitches? Thanks. Karen

    Gull Wing Roof

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to re-create a roof situation where only part of the roof plane is a gull wing roof, and only on one side of the gable. It is to cover the part of the upstairs bedroom that sticks out from the main exterior wall. I want a 5/10 pitch until 3'6" in from the baseline, and then 10/12 pitch but can't get it to show up when I try. The last screen shot (elevation) shows the condition I'm trying to achieve. I had previously drawn it as two roof planes. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate them. Thanks. Marttinen_2018_change_roof.plan
  10. Hello, Does anyone know how to draw a floor truss that is only top-chord bearing, so that the rest of the truss hangs into the basement? We are trying to show a "zero-entry" condition on the main floor. A builder I talked to said that is how it would be built, over 3 sill plates, over the top of the poured basement wall. I can't find any information on drawing it... Thanks.
  11. Thank you so much, David. I've made so many material and wall type changes over the course of the design, and evidently I didn't make the changes in the correct places! This helps me immensely. The bump out I removed from the kitchen (see screenshot of plan I sent originally) is no longer shown, it's just those wing walls I need to remove... That is what my question is about the bump-out, not the rear one. As a side note, here in MN it is standard building practice to use 2x6 exterior walls in all residential construction, has been as far as I know since the 80's. Thanks again! Karen
  12. Hello- I ran into trouble when I went to remove a hand-drawn bump-out that I want to replace with a HD-generated bay window. I already had the issue that in several places on my house I had two different wall types trying to show up in the same place (in camera view). Now I also have it in the front of the main floor where my bump-out was. Also, in plan view I see the wing walls showing up, even thought I've tried to delete them... I wonder if my problem has something to do with setting my roof truss to be raised 7" to create an energy heel truss, which is required here in MN. It seems to create little 7" tall attic walls on top of all my walls. If anyone has any ideas about how to fix this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks. Marttinen l.plan
  13. David- Thank you so much for your help! Karen
