The painter mode selected is component and it still changes both roofs. Is there anyway to separate the buildings and keep them on the same file?

Im sure im missing something simple but everytime I try to change the roof material for the steel building it also changes the roof material on the house

Hi everyone. Ive created 2 different buildings on the same file so i can view them how they will be positioned on my property. One is a house and the other is a steel building. Selecting diiferent exterior wall materials was easy enough but i cant figure out how to use different roof material for each building. I want to use shingles on the house and metal roof on the steel building. Any suggestions?
