I should add that being a shift worker I am considering no windows in the bedroom.  I might consider one on the south wall, but i would have to get a remote blind to totally darken the room.

To my knowledge it is illegal in the USA to have a bedroom without an egress-sized window. You can use black out type window coverings but in case of fire if your normal exits are blocked by fire you still need an alternate way for emergency exit.
