Second view with dormer cheek short of gable wall

I am unable to locate my shed dormer's cheek walls directly above the gable end walls of the same floor. Although people often make dormers smaller than the length of the building I am really just building a salt box that is made to look look smaller by the small bit of roofline running down the cheek wall.  This is typical In my area.

I would think calculate by room would use the name of the room and calculate by area would use a curser selection for creating a material list, however they both seem to be exactly the same. They both use a cursor selection to define the area you are trying to generate the list for.  Am I missing something?
