Eric, thanks, but for me, hitting the space bar removes the spray can and deselects the object, but when I select the material object again (artwork) the spray can is back. I've used this software for 1-1/2 yrs. and never had the spray can before.

I am trying to add another painting to the wall, but the Material Painter is activated and it keeps spraying the entire wall with the artwork. This has not happened to me before. I cannot figure how to turn off the Material Painter spray can.
