I figured it out.  I selected the porch/deck room and checked roof over this room and then used the build roof feature and it worked like a charm.  Got it just the way I like it now.

I attached the current home plan.  For the garage roof, I'm looking to just have a gabled roof.  Every time, I go to build a roof, it changes the roof of the entire house.

Hello, is there a way for me to build a roof for a detached garage without ruining or changing the roof I already have built for the house?  I am using Home Designer Architectural 2017.
