Thanks for that. I'll have a look at the manual approach in more detail, I just presumed that will all the anomalies I must be doing something wrong elsewhere.

I am trying to add a roof to a plan where the building has a couple of extensions (so some ex-external walls now internal) and different wall types and this seems to be causing problems now I've got to the upper floor and gave the roof building a test. I've attached the plan with fittings removed (still large file though?) and there are a number of issues: The big issues are the main roof always has a gap, either as per the image or where the main and front parts of the roof meet and also the phantom roof corners on the ground. I've tried various changes to the walls and I always get the hole, although sometimes its slightly different to others. This makes me wonder if I've set about the walls wrongly. The main roof should be a pretty standard 'L' shape with gable ends where shown in the plan and an offset section above the small room at the top of the plan. The lesser issue which is lack of experience, is working out how to make the roof sections over the lower floor rear extension and small front protrusion both shed type. My efforts result in the side walls being extended to the top roof level. So I would be grateful for advice on where I am going wrong. Roof issue.plan

For anyone with this issue, a quick update that this is now fixed in the 2017 version

I've seen from a search that I am not the only one with the problem of no effective control on door inset. I have numerous external doors, including several wide sliding and bi-fold doors so these look significantly different. Given this can be controlled for windows this omission is odd so where is the best place to put in a feature request? I've worked through a number of issues due to my house's variable thickness walls and complex pony walls, but this last one has me beaten!

I keep coming back to this issue and not found an answer yet - I just can't add a door nearer to the end of any external wall than the value of its width. So if your external wall changes types then you'll not get a door very close to where the types change which is an issue for modelling my current house prior to modifications. Anyone got any other suggestions? My effort to make the external wall thicker using two parallel walls parts so still using the same wall for the basic outline failed for other reasons.

Just realised I've caused confusion by referring to sliding windows when talking about sliding patio doors - apologies! (where I am based we commonly say patio/sliding windows as we rarely have non floor height sliding windows) Anyway looking at your screen shot more closely, it looks like this has actually pushed it back into the 670mm long thicker wall part. I need the sliding door about 80mm in from that thicker part and with either a window or door that doesn't work for me.

That's interesting as it doesn't work for me. If I drag to size nearer the corner the sliding door stops sizing where it's shown on my screen shot. I wonder what the difference is, perhaps a preference? I'll have to experiment....

My house has a wall design where the corners are thicker to allow for partial tiling on the front and back of the house from the second floor level. So I used a separate wall type for this connected to the normal external walls and that's fine, but now I come to add sliding windows I find I cannot size them to the correct size as their appears to be a minimum wall length. This makes sense but given I have two wall types connected this prevents me moving the window nearer the corner. For example below I want to increase the sliding window size to be almost at the thicker corner section: Is there any way I can turn off this minimum or do I need to do this another way? I tried using the normal external wall everywhere and adding an extra single layer to it but that kept connecting resizing when it got near the existing wall. A plan with these walls but before I added the sliding window is as per my earlier posts: Wall footing gaps.plan

Thanks both. In the end I continued with the plan and a little later when adding a smaller internal wall a couple of the anomalies fixed themselves and labelling the adjoining room fixed the others on the other side of the house. I reverted to the previous saved copy and repeated just those last two steps with the same results. These actions obviously cause something to be adjusted or recalculated, but as a software developer myself I would call this a bug. Not serious in overall use, just makes a new user such as myself wonder if I am using the tool incorrectly.

Many thanks David. Got this working fine now, and yes when using metric plans there are less internal wall types which I hadn't noticed before!

In 3D view the various wall types I used cause gaps to the footing: I need various wall types as my house has a mix of old and new walls, dry lined versus direct plastered etc and also thicker corner sections due to the second floor being mostly tiled. Is this a glitch with 3D rendering or something I've not set correctly. I am not trying to achieve visual perfection but want to ensure this this floor is drawn correctly before working on the second. Sample plan file attached.

Thanks for the two suggestions. Breaking the wall and making a new internal wall type worked. I had tried this before but somehow didn't update the external wall finish so it had the wrong material on the plasterboard layer. I'll give the other approach over covering it up a try later on so I know for reference.

I've attached a simplified example of the issue. The plan will have another floor added which doesn't have the extension and there's also a lintel down into the rooms hence why I've gone the route of an opening in the external wall rather than breaking the wall which was my first thought. I've only recently started using Home Designer Pro so I could be approaching this incorrectly - I've tried applying material and adjusting which wall layers are internal but none of these changes work completely. My house has a ground floor extension for two rooms and I am trying to create the opening through the double external that is now inside the extension. The problem is that the opening which I've done with an interior door without a casement leaves an un-rendered section and brick showing: I've tried altering the wall details for the part of the double wall that is now inside the extension but that makes the next floor above difficult and alignment on the ground floor with the rest of the external wall awkward. I'll also tried modifying the casement but I get stuck with the skirting. So what is the best way to handle this and get the normal room finish through the opening just as happens when creating an opening in an internal wall?
