When you're trying to place a rug in Home Designer (or Home Designer Pro), there's an important distinction to make:
1. Place a Rug Object first
Go to the library path: Interiors → Accessories → Rugs and choose a basic rug shape (e.g., rectangular). Drop that on your floor plan (HomeTalk Forum, HomeTalk Forum).
2. Then apply a rug material
Open the Materials or Flooring catalog under Flooring → Rugs (or manufacturer catalogs). Select a rug pattern or material, then apply it to the placed rug object (HomeTalk Forum).
If you try placing a material directly from the rug swatches in the material browser without an object in place, nothing will happen—that’s why dragging a pattern by itself doesn’t stick.
Toggle to camera (3D) view if you’re applying a wall‑to‑wall style pattern—it works like paint with a spray can in that mode (HomeTalk Forum).
TL;DR Workflow:
Insert a rug from Interiors → Accessories → Rugs.
Assign your desired rug material from Flooring → Rugs.
If painting floors wall-to-wall, use camera view spray method.
Following these steps should solve the "no drag" issue and let you customize rug finishes easily
