The 1st floor defaults were in error and overriding the room defaults. Once I checked the default box in the image below, the room defaults were as expected and new rooms drawn had the intended default floor and ceiling. Additionally, I don't even have to go update every room in the drawing, since default was checked already, everything now has a floor and ceiling. Thanks for the help! I will try the small file method next go around! Brian

That is a good point, I forgot to mention I tried different values there. Currently the room type is "unspecified" but whatever I changed it to did not impact the result.

Home Designer Pro 2024 Build 25.3.0.77 Windows 64-bit I noticed in my 3D rendering that I had chip board for a ceiling and floor. From reading a post in the Q&A forum, I found the issue was my floor and ceiling heights were set to 0". Changing this to anything above 0" fixed this easy enough, but my question is: Why are my default values not applied, further, why is default acting like it is zero? See "default" image for what floors and ceiling thickness should be. See "Room Default Wrong" for how default is checked and it is set to 0". See "Room Default Mismatch" for how when I type the numbers in to match the intended default, the default box is not checked (when I check it, number reverts to 0"). New rooms drawn separate from the existing floor plan (off in the white space), also have the incorrect default setting of 0". The file is too big to attach. I posted a copy here if you want to see it (link expires 9/30/2024): 104-106 Walpole Ln - Copy.plan I created the file like this: I started with a previously completed duplex I created as the base file. Saved it under a different name. Deleted all drawn content using delete floor tool. I saved this as my template. I reopened the previous duplex and copied the entire main floor (single story). I pasted into the new file, built the foundation, and built the roof. My opinion is I have done something wrong, but I just don't know what it is. I do realize I should have just started with the first file and saved it as a new name, but I have invested several hours on the new file now. I can copy the changes over manually, but just thought I would reach out to see if anyone knew what I did wrong or if this is actually a software glitch (unlikely, I suspect I am missing something obvious). Thanks in advance for any help or direction, Brian

Mixed Foundation - Walls with Footings and Grade Beams on Piers
FACES_Constr replied to FACES_Constr's topic in Q&A
Thank you so much "solver"! This answer is super helpful and over the top for a contributor! I particularly found the CAD line centering method helpful. There are a couple of reasons why: 1. I didn't know that was a tool that could be used for that purpose and 2. I should stop worrying when a method I derive is "manual" - sometimes that is the best/only way! A note on searches, I think I am spoiled to AI searching already and was doing complex terms and phrases (e.g. placing a block pier on a footer" and never thought to do a simple search on "Piers," yet another helpful tip from your reply! For those who find this thread in searches, I attached my completed image using the techniques from the video linked above: -
Hi! I believe my question is pretty basic, which makes me think I am missing some obvious automatic feature. I have a basic foundation that is mostly "Walls with Footings" (this is my automatic foundation type choice in Home Designed Pro 2024). The overall shell of the house is 25' x 60'. Since I am using lumber, I need a beam to run down the center of the house for floor joist support. I had hopes this would automatically be placed when I changed the joists to "lumber" vice an engineered material capable of such a span, but no luck there. It seems from my research, adding a beam and piers is a manual task? ...confirmation please... Where I am in this manual task: Adding the beam was simple enough, I used Build>Framing>Floor/Ceiling Beam. Upon insertion my joists switched to the preset defaults of sitting on top of the beam and lap (Default settings>Framing Defaults>"Foundation" and "Beams"). My high consternation is when it came time to add the piers. There are many options to try, but I chose to use an external wall and manually changed the "Wall Type" to "16" CMU (block) Stem Wall," in the general tab I checked "Foundation Wall" and changed "Thickness" and "Wall Length" to 16" and in the "Foundation" tab changed Footing to the size for local codes and checked the "Sill Plate" box. So far so good, but the issue is this "wall" (aka pier) wants to be under just the joists. When under joists, it is perfect (sill plate correctly located). When I build or move it under the beam, the height is wrong (through the beam) and/or the sill plate disappears or is placed inside the beam. What am I doing wrong? I can make an annotation on the drawings to allow for a sill plate, but I would prefer it to be on the drawing...that is more professional than saying "I don't know how to work the software so imagine it is there..." Thanks and this is my first house to design with this software and I am certainly a beginner (though I have watched hours and hours of how-to videos and read for hours also), so please state the obvious if it is obvious, I will not get offended!
