  1. Thank you. The lumber yard asked for them to be included in my plans to give me a materials estimate. I will give them prints on 8 1/2 X 11 and then answer any questions they might have that they can't obtain from the floor plans, if they have any. I can't imagine what that would be.

  2. I have exported both my main level plan and foundation plan to PDF at the scale of ¼” = 1’-0”. However, I cannot do that with my elevations. When I go to export an elevation, I click on “Export PDF” and I have the “Destination” and “Paper” settings options, but I do not have the “Drawing Scale” option to set the scale. I have searched in Help but I have not found anything to assist me. Can anyone help me? I’m sure I’m overlooking something.

  4. Thank you Eric, for the time you spent on my plan! I am a retired builder and agree 100% on your suggestions to make the roof line simpler with fewer gables, to lower the cost! I am also a traditionalist who likes an all brick home. Unfortunately, my wife insists on mixing materials and having a cut-up roof with gables.

Do you know if there's a way, with Architectural 2023, to draw beams, under the little gable on the porch, that go from the posts on each side, up the slope of the soffit with the pitch of the roof? (I'm afraid that's as clear as mud)

  5. Thank you Eric!

As you can tell I'm an amateur at Home designer. Many years ago I taught using  AutoCAD but HD is totally different and being a lot older I'm sure I'm slower at catching onto things.

I should mention this is my second set of plans using HD and on this one I've had trouble with "Automatically Rebuild Foundation". I've turned it off and on several times and that might be my problem, I don't know.

I tried to attach a copy of my plan but it said it is larger than 14 MB. However in File Explorer it says the PLAN file is only 16,591 KB. So I saved a screen capture as a jpeg file and attached it.

    I hope this helps.

  6. Thank you Scott. I wasn't very clear. I don't want to draw piers under the foundation itself. I'm meant to refer to piers under the girders in the center of the foundation plan, to support the floor joists.

  7. I have Home Designer Architectural 2023.

Is there a way for the piers and beams on the foundation plan to be drawn automatically as you design the first floor? If so, I haven’t figured it out.

    Porch

May I ask, why is a small portion of the exterior wall showing at the base of the rail and at the very top of the ceiling height of the rail? I've evidently done something else wrong.

    Porch

Thank you David. When I draw the railing, it doesn't define the room because of the gap in the railing where we walk up the steps. If I put the rail all the way across, without an opening, then it will define the room and I have the gable.

    Porch

I recently upgraded from Home Designer Suite 2021 to Architectural 2023, but I don’t have a lot of experience with Home Designer software. I am drawing a rectangular porch in front of the house, recessed under the roof, but with a small extension of the porch out in front of the entrance door. The house basically has a hip roof but we want a gable roof over the wall of porch extension. I have drawn the porch and built invisible exterior walls to define the room. We want a post and beam “rail” around it. When I draw the railing the walls disappear and no longer have the room defined and the roof disappears. I also tried drawing the posts and beams using the cabinet soffit tools. I’m sure I’m missing something simple. Any suggestions? (I hope this is clearer than mud).

  8. I am fairly new to Home Designer Suite and have not used it much. I’m not sure which version I have. I purchased it in September 2020, so I’m assuming its version 2020. I am trying to draw a cathedral ceiling over my living room. I am able to get a single slope (following the rafters) from one side of the room to the other side. How can I get two slopes, from opposite sides of the room, that meet at a peak in the center of the room?
