Didn't realize there was a difference. So now I do . Thanks. Forgive my newbie-ness, but how do I get that 2D side view? EDIT: Never mind ... got it The "Elevation" view really helped with dialing that in. Yup, you definitely gave me the answer. Thanks for your help, Jo_Ann

At this point I'm just trying to figure out a technique to get the roof right before I do anything else; so still experimenting, basically. I haven't yet building anything more complex/detailed than what LawB10 made, above. So there's really nothing yet to share Here's is my IMPROVED crude graphic

LawB10 and Jo_Ann This is the tutorial I found for making the basic Salt Box roof. It's pretty straight forward. But I just can't get the "broken" part to be broken exactly where I want it https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00119/automatically-creating-a-saltbox-roof.html
-
No, that's what I'm getting as well. What I WANT is for the the upper part of the long roof section (right side, in your graphic) to end at the same height as the left side. See the red line vs blue line, below. But no matter how much I play with "in from baseline" I can't make it work.

Jo Your graphic is pretty much exactly what I end up with too. But what I WANT, is for the the upper part of the long roof section (left side, in your graphic) to end at the same height as the right side. In your graphic (as in all my attempts, as well) it keeps going down. See red line, below.

I can make a basic salt box roof easy enough: Simply drag one of the second story walls in a bit and make it a "knee" wall. And I can do the "gull wing" thing on the lower part of the longer roof section (the "broken back" part) no problem: Check the "upper pitch" box on the corresponding first floor wall, make that pitch match the pitch of the shorter roof side (in this case 8 in 12) then reduce the pitch on the lower part (in this case to 4 in 12). BUT .... No matter how much I play with the "start at height" and/or "in from baseline" numbers, I can't get the eaves of the 8 in 12 sections to plane-out at the same height. < see attached crude graphic > Any ideas about how I might do this?

Got it! I moved my invisible wall closer to the center of the structure, and for some reason it now builds correctly even with the other roof in place. Thanks for your help While I have you on the line: Any thoughts on how to make the red siding appear on the outside of those gable walls? They are technically interior walls, except, of course, parts of them are visible on the outside
-
OK, tried it. It just removed the roof
-
Yes, that is what I'm trying to achieve The rest of the roof is correct (I fixed the pitch of that center section so it now matches the others ... 6 in 12 instead of 8 in 12). Not sure how to "turn off the roof" on that side. Is something I do with the wall?
-
The section in question is over a single room, and I did try that: I put an invisible wall in the middle and changed the ceiling height of one of the rooms. What it did is illustrated in the attached screenshot: Instead of a single gable, it created one for each "room" at one end, but only that end. As you can see, the other end has the single gable, offset like I wanted. The specs on both walls is the same, so I'm not sure why it worked on one end and not the other.

Home Designer Suite 2021. Thanks for the advice about adding it to my signature. I've now done that Yes, I've been searching through HELP and the videos on YouTube. Lots of good info out there. Again, I'm sure the solution is simple. I just haven't found it yet

I'm sure this is an easy one: I'm trying to create a gable roof where the peak is off-set to one side, but the pitch is the same on both sides. I recognize that the wall on the side with the shorter span will have to be taller, but I can't figure out how to do it. Help?
