Here are photos - not sure if they are big enough to see.   It's an enclosed stairs with an opening on the first floor underneath the tallest part of the stairs.  I don't know how to get the solid wall to continue past the end of the wall on the first floor as it goes up the stairs.  It just stays as a railing on that section as it continues up to the landing and onto the 90 degree turn.
