Yes Jo_Ann, first thing I did.  No updates available.  I went so far as to uninstall the driver and reload it.

Good suggestion.  I am working on a desktop so I could upgrade it, but it is a few years old.  Wasn't planning on replacing it for at least 2 more years. And all I want the software for is a simple project.

Thinking my video card is not quite up to it.  Requirements are for OpenGL 3.3

I updated my signature with the Chief Architect info.  It's Home Designer Architectural 2018.

I'm on a Win 10 box.

I attached the 'plan' that I am testing.  Just drew a wall and put a window in it.  The wall then turns black.

ehh....  When I insert a window into a wall the wall turns black. 

Just testing some stuff before I get too far.  The wall is just a default exterior wall.

I've used this company's software before, and am using the new version.  Architectural 2018.
